Job Summary
The Physician Specialist provides specialized medical care and expertise within a department focusing on delivering high-quality healthcare services to a specific population or group. This position involves diagnosing treating and managing patients with complex medical conditions as well as providing consultation guidance and education to other healthcare professionals. The Physician Specialist will work within a multidisciplinary healthcare team and may participate in public health initiatives policy development and health-related research.
Primary Responsibilities
Provide specialized medical care for patients diagnosing and treating complex or chronic medical conditions in accordance with state healthcare medical examinations interpret diagnostic tests and develop individualized treatment plans based on patient consultations to patients healthcare providers and state agencies regarding specialized medical follow-up care monitor patient progress and make necessary adjustments to treatment plans based on evolving or supervise specialized medical procedures or treatments within the area of with other healthcare professionals including nurses social workers and specialists to provide comprehensive care to accurate comprehensive and confidential patient records in compliance with state and federal medical procedures treatments and patient outcomes thoroughly ensuring compliance with healthcare documentation patients on their health conditions treatment options and preventive care.
Knowledge and Skills
Expertise in diagnosing and treating medical conditions within the specialized field including the ability to assess patient symptoms interpret test results and develop effective treatment in performing specialized medical procedures or treatments ensuring the highest standards of care and communication skills with the ability to explain complex medical concepts to patients healthcare providers and non-medical stakeholders in an understandable critical thinking and problem-solving abilities with the capacity to assess complex medical cases interpret data and determine the most effective course of to make sound evidence-based decisions under pressure particularly in high-stakes or emergency to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team of healthcare providers to ensure patient-centered leadership skills including the ability to supervise mentor and guide junior healthcare staff and other professionals.
Minimum Qualifications
Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) degree from an accredited medical school plus three (3) years of professional experience in a clinical or specialized setting
Satisfaction of the minimum qualifications including years of experience and service does not entitle employees to automatic progression within the job series. Promotion to the next classification level is at the discretion of the department and the Office of Personnel Management taking into consideration the employees demonstrated skills competencies performance workload responsibilities and organizational needs.
Licensure/Certifications
Must hold an active and unrestricted physician license issued by the Arkansas State Medical JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
