What We Offer

This is an on-call position which means it is a part-time hourly role. This position will work at least 20 hours per week and no more than 39 hours per week. The starting pay for this position is set at $20.31 per hour and is eligible to enroll in the City and County of Denvers 457b retirement plan. This position is not eligible for other additional benefits. Oncall positions may have routine or variable work schedules.

Location & Schedule

In this position you can expect to work on site at multiple recreation centers around the City and County of Denver.

Summer Rec Kidz program locations include:

You will be expected to work on site Monday- Friday from 8:30am-4:30pm. This includes a mandatory 30-minute lunch break.

An onboarding session is required the week of June 1st. There will be a mandatory week-long training held June 8th 12th from 9:00am 5:00pm. Summer Rec Kidz officially runs from June 15th August 7th from 9:00 a.m.4:00 p.m. You must maintain a 90% attendance rate as our youth rely on structure and routine to make this program a success.

What Youll Do

Denver Parks and Recreation is seeking MY Denver Youth Instructors to instruct plan and implement organized recreation activities and enrichments for youth throughout the MY Denver network of programs. These positions provide an opportunity to make a direct positive impact to enrich the lives of the Denver communitys youth ensuring and participating in fun and engaging programming!

The MY Denver Card provides free access to all Denvers recreation centers for young people ages 5-18 who are residents of Denver and/or attend Denver Public Schools. MY Denver exists to engage young people in structured drop-in programming through a myriad of learning and social opportunities during out-of-school time. Out-of-school time recreational programming directly contributes to academic and social development positioning youth for present and future success. MY Denvers focus is to provide safe supportive quality opportunities for youth to play learn and grow.

Our summer programs offer a fun and safe place for youth to socialize and explore a variety of recreational activities through hands-on projects and experiences. The Summer Rec Kidz Team is devoted to engaging the community through facilitating programs and activities for a diverse group of youth ages 812. Our team is gearing up for our best summer yet and is looking to hire several Summer Rec Kidz Site Leaders to join the team. Site Leaders are passionate about enriching the community around them and interacting positively with youth ages 512 through a variety of activities including sports swimming arts and crafts educational programs and much more. Site Leaders are hired primarily for the summer season with opportunities to continue working for the team in the fall depending on need and performance.

Program Site Leaders are paid $20.31/hour.

Our Summer Camp Program Site Leaders are responsible for:

  • Supervising and facilitating all aspects of operations on-site
  • Delivering high-quality programs while ensuring the safety of participants
  • Comfortable working with youth in a variety of settings including but not limited to outdoor spaces pools and mountain parks
  • Serving as role models and using positive youth development strategies
  • Effectively communicating with participants parents co-workers and/or park personnel
  • Delegating program responsibilities to other instructors when necessary
  • Maintaining accurate program records including incident reports logbook documentation and daily attendance
  • Monitoring supply inventory and relaying supply needs in a timely manner

What Youll Bring

We are looking for candidates with strong skills in organization leadership problem solving oral/written communication working/planning on a team and ensuring implementation and coordination of all activities. Experience working with children in a similar setting is expected and knowledge of youth development and behavior intervention is preferred.

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience in facilitating programming and instructing youth ages 812
  • Experience in leading a team of three (3) or more employees within a youth program or project
  • Some experience working with youth with disabilities
  • Experience in conflict resolution and interpersonal dilemmas
  • Experience or training in behavior intervention and supervision of elementary youth
  • Current CPR First Aid and Standard Precautions
  • Bilingual skills
  • Has reliable transportation to and from locations

Required Minimum Qualifications

We realize your time is valuable so please do not apply if you do not have at least the following required minimum qualifications:

  • Education: Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED HiSET or TASC Certificate.
  • Experience: Two (2) years of experience (paid or volunteer) as an instructor in an organized specialized formal program.
  • Licensures/Certification(s): Requires certification in CPR/First Aid at the time of application or prior to completion of probation period. Licensure and certification must be kept current as a condition of employment.
  • Equivalency: A combination of appropriate education and experience may be substituted for the minimum education and experience requirements.
