Job Summary
BC Timber Sales (BCTS) is a unique program of the Ministry of Forests (MOF). Working collaboratively with regional and district operations BCTS plans develops and auctions a substantial portion of the provinces annual available timber volume. BCTS operates as a for profit entity within a government organization. Its goal is to provide credible representative price and cost benchmark data for the Market Pricing System through auctions of timber harvested from British Columbias public land. BCTS operations are guided by three overarching principles forest sector safety reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples and sustainable forest management.

The Team
Youll be joining the Boundary Field Team an established and highly collaborative group within BC Timber Sales Kootenay Business Area. Our team includes experienced Forest Technicians and Foresters who work closely with professionals in silviculture development engineering business administration and Indigenous relations. Together we manage sustainable timber development and ensure compliance with environmental and safety standards. The work we do directly supports local communities and contributes to responsible forest management across the region. The Role
As an Operations Technologist youll play a key role in planning and implementing timber development and harvesting operations including contract administration and field inspections. Your work ensures safe efficient and environmentally sound practices that benefit both the forest and the communities that depend on it. Qualifications:
- Graduation from an approved technical institute with a diploma or degree in resource or forestry management and three years of experience in one or more operational field forestry activities
. OR
- An equivalent combination of education or experience such as five years of experience in one or more area of operational field forestry.
- Operational field forestry activities include one or more of the following:
- Timber harvesting monitoring/conformance
- Cut-block development
- Forest road engineering
- Silviculture
- Timber tenure development and administration
- Applicants must be registered or eligible for registration with the Forest Professionals of British Columbia (FPBC)as a Registered Forest Technologist or equivalent.
- Must possess at minimum a valid Class 5 B.C. Drivers License that does not limit or restrict the ability to conduct the duties of the job.
Preferences may be given to candidates with one (1) or more of the following:
- Preference may be given to applicants with three years of specific operational field-based forestry experience in timber development and harvesting.
- Preference may be given to applicants with three years of specific forestry experience in one or more operational field-based forestry activities such as tenure development road and block layout or timber tenure administration.
- Experience in contract or financial administration.
PROVISOS
- Must be willing and able to withstand the rigors of fieldwork.
- Must be willing to work in adverse weather conditions.
- Must be willing and able to travel to meet job requirements.
- Must be willing and able to travel in fixed and or rotary winged aircraft and or watercraft.

Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 2 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement and successfully completed probation period.
Applicants who do not fully meet the required qualifications may be considered for this position but at a lower classification.
