Position Overview
This position is accountable for the maintenance inventory operation and maintenance of all traffic signalshighway lighting flashing beacons and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) in the district.
Essential Functions
- Performs maintenance and inventories of traffic signal flasher highway lighting and IntelligentTransportation Systems (ITS) installations and ensures their proper operation according to state andfederal standards.
- Reviews and ensures the proper timing of traffic signal controllers to ensure that traffic flows as smoothlyas possible.
- Administers the contract maintenance for traffic signal and lighting systems throughout the district toensure that the timing sequences that are required are implemented.
- Performs inspection of traffic signal equipment used in highway construction projects to ensure that theyare functioning in accordance to the standards set by the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices forStreets and Highways.
- Keeps abreast of developments in the traffic signal lighting ITS and related areas so that the districtmay avail itself of updates in lighting and traffic signal technology.
- Performs duties in compliance with all departmental safety rules. Performs all duties in a mannerconducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Completion of two years of college in civil engineering technology pre-engineering or a job relatedtechnical/science curriculum PLUS five years of engineering experience; OR seven years of relatedengineering experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Six years of responsible experience in the installation modification maintenance and repair of trafficsignal and lighting control equipment.
- Experience in oversight of projects or staff in the installation configuration and maintenance ofsoftware programs related to signal systems.
- Possession of the International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) Level III Traffic Signal Certification.
- Certified Fiber Optic Technician.
- Proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex electrical electronic and traffic signal computernetworking problems.
- Ability to perform mathematical computations involving geometry trigonometry percentages fractionsand decimals.
- Industry certification and training pursuant to electrical communications and traffic signal systems.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite including Word and Excel.
Conditions of Employment
- Requires a valid drivers license.
- Requires successful completion of a background screening.
- Requires 24-hour emergency call availability.
- Requires occasional districtwide travel; and overtime.
- Requires the mobility to perform medium to heavy physical work; sit stand frequent walking on uneven terrain reach turn kneel bend stoop squat climb ladders and utilize bucket truck up to 55 feet.
- Requires finger dexterity to operate tools and equipment.
- Requires ability to carry push pull materials up to 50 pounds.
- Obtain and maintain a valid non-CDL Class B license within 90 days of employment.
- Requires the ability to tolerate field work during hot and cold temperatures inclement weather dirt dust pollen road hazards mechanical or electrical hazards.
- Requires successful completion of a pre-employment background investigation a pre-employment physical examination and a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening.
