The Opportunity:
The Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) Lead will work with the interdisciplinary IPAC team to implement manage and oversee the Homes Infection Prevention and Control Program. The Infection Prevention and Control Lead (IPAC Lead) will be a resident safety expert who will lead the planning development implementation coordination and evaluation of system wide improvements in infection prevention and serve as a role model to promote the goals of the IPAC program within the larger context of the vision and mission of AgeCare.
What Is In It For You:
Provides education to residents care givers visitors and volunteers related to infection prevention and control principles.
Implements effective infectious disease surveillance and reporting systems ensuring staff are conducting surveillance appropriately and appropriate action is taken. Identify trends and potential spread and corrective actions to be taken including identification of outbreaks.
Coordinates the resident/employee immunization program including influenza vaccine clinics.
Monitors infections and outbreaks investigates causes and trends and identify area of improvement.
Ensures early detection and management of outbreaks and coordinate outbreaks management protocols including prophylaxis and treatment in collaboration with public health pharmacy and medical director.
Ensures communication of the infection control through data and postings or through resident/family council.
Review symptom screening gathered and review of daily and monthly screening results to determine actions required.
Develop and maintain a relationship with the local Public Health/Communicable Disease department laboratory representative and corporate IPAC lead.
Participates in the development assessment planning implementation and evaluation of the Homes IPAC Program.
Identifies and reports infections and/or outbreaks and follow guidelines for reporting communicable diseases to the appropriate government/health authority agencies.
Establishes annual program goals for the Infection Prevention and Control Program in the home.
Implements AgeCares IPAC policies and procedures.
Works in collaboration with Director of Care or designate to complete online outbreak reports where applicable.
Works in collaboration with the Administrator/ or designate to complete notification and reports to the Ministry of Labour for any potential healthcare acquired infections of employees during outbreak.
Prepares and executes action plans for gaps identified through surveillance/audit activities.
Reviews monthly and quarterly data collection and analysis of performance indicators and provide reports for review at Quality Team and Infection Prevention and Control quarterly meetings.
What You Will Need:
Minimum of three (3) years experience in a long-term care setting is preferred.
Previous experience in Infection Prevention and Control and Outbreak Management.
Previous experience providing education and training as an asset.
Certification from the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology obtained by 3 years from hire date.
Current registration with the Provincial College of Nurses with an RN or RPN designation.
Successful completion of IPAC Core Competencies training through the Provincial Public Health Prior Education and training in infection prevention and control assets.
Completion of an IPAC Canada Recognized Course is an asset.
Salary Range: $64000.00 - $68000.00 per year
Salary placement based on qualifications and experience.
