Manager Engineering-Standards & Generation -LONDON ON

We are excited to fill a key vacancy within our Engineering Services department and are seeking a dynamic professional ready to drive innovation and excellence. Reporting to the Director of Engineering Services this role blends business acumen with hands-on technical leadership guiding the evolution of distribution equipment and material standards while leading seamless customer-focused generation connection processes. Working in close partnership with cross-functional teams you will champion safe reliable and cost-effective operations ensure alignment with regulatory requirements and industry best practices and influence corporate planning through insightful data performance reporting and budget leadership.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Team Leadership: Supervise and provide technical and administrative direction to the Standards and Generation departments.
  • Engineering Standards & Generation Management: Lead the development review approval and continuous improvement of distribution equipment and material standards. Manage the endtoend customer generation connection process including technical assessments connection impact studies approvals stamping work orders and commissioning requirements. Ensures in partnership with Protection & Control Operations and Regulatory teams compliant safe and responsive generation connection processes for customers distribution generation and distributed energy resource project proponents. Provide technical direction to internal stakeholders regarding the application and interpretation of standards. Coordinate internal staff to complete customer-driven generation projects in a timely manner to meet OEB expectations and regulatory requirements. Actively participate in external committees/working groups such as ESAs Utility Advisory Council (UAC) the Utility Standards Forum (USF) and OEB Working groups as applicable. Remain current in new emerging technologies and research ways to analyze and improve system reliability.
  • Compliance and Quality & Technical Assurance: Ensure equipment standards and technical documentation are in place and reflect current industry best practices regulatory requirements and utility needs. Lead and coordinate equipment failure investigations with internal teams and external parties (manufacturers suppliers consultants) to determine root causes perform detailed analysis recommend and implement corrective actions and document findings through formal reports bulletins presentations and training. Conduct periodic workplace audits action items and follow-ups to ensure compliance with approved standards across field operations and engineering teams. Support annual ESA audits as a technical lead to demonstrate compliance with Ontario Reg. 22/04 Section 6 and collaborate with Purchasing and Logistics to review and approve new products and suppliers to ensure they meet required safety regulatory and quality standards. Maintain update and communicate standards documentation specifications and engineering guidelines. Prepare review and approve technical documents such as equipment specifications certified test reports and drawings.
  • Budget Reporting & Data Analytics: Provide input into capital/reliability projects including the development of business cases technical reports and recommendations to support investment decisions. Manage and continuously monitor the department budget and expenditures. Coordinate and review departmental Key Performance Indicators including collection reporting and meeting related service level targets. Deliver regular performance updates to senior management highlighting trends risks and mitigation strategies.
  • Safety: Ensure personal and direct reports adherence to all Occupational Health & Safety Act rules and regulations IHSA safety rules London Hydro Safe Work Practices Environmental Policies and Health and Safety policies. Ensure all incidents injuries and hazards are reported and reviewed and that corrective actions are taken. Complete workplace audits action items and follow-ups.

WHAT YOU WILL BRING

  • Successful completion of a Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized university PLUS additional specialized training in a related area is considered an asset.
  • . Designation and registration with the Professional Engineers of Ontario (P.E.O.).
  • Minimum seven (7) years of progressive experience in distribution engineering standards generation or asset management.
  • In-depth knowledge of Ontario electrical distribution systems and the regulatory environment.
  • Strong knowledge of OEB Distribution System Code Electrical Safe Authority (ESA) requirements IESO Market Rules and relevant CSA/IEEE standards.
  • Knowledge of warehouse management systems.
  • Proven leadership and team management skills with the ability to coach develop and engage both unionized and non-unionized staff.
  • Ability and initiative to work independently and to be proactive.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive and collaborative cross-functional relationships at all levels of the organization and with external stakeholders.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills including experience presenting to executive teams and external audiences.
  • Strong experience in Project Management.
  • Excellent organizational time management leadership and interpersonal skills with a commitment to accuracy.
  • Strong judgement and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrates a collaborative and results-driven approach.
  • Ability to solve problems in complex and ambiguous situations.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing requirements and priorities.
  • Position necessitates a high degree of tact diplomacy discretion confidentiality and integrity.
  • Advanced proficiency in the use of Microsoft Word Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Valid Drivers License Class G.
