An organization is seeking a Lead Engineer II Gears to support gear manufacturing operations and continuous improvement initiatives. This role focuses on preventing scrap minimizing scheduling impacts implementing process improvements and mentoring team members to ensure projects operate at the highest level of efficiency and quality.
Key Responsibilities
Program and troubleshoot Oerlikon G Series gear grinders
Program and troubleshoot Kapp VX Series gear grinders
Develop hypoid and spiral bevel gear designs using KIMoS
Program and troubleshoot Klingelnberg P Series inspection machines
Document and manage PPAP for newly developed gearing products
Perform roll test programming and troubleshooting
Program and troubleshoot gear shaping equipment
Develop PFMEA and DFMEA documentation
Use KISSsoft and KIMoS for gear design evaluation and programming
Create detailed work instructions and setup documentation for gear manufacturing processes
Analyze gear distortion data and recommend machining tolerances before and after heat treatment
Mentor manufacturing specialists and engineering teams on gear production processes
Perform routine maintenance on machines and equipment
Maintain a clean organized cellular manufacturing workspace according to operational standards
Ensure continuous flow of materials and parts through the manufacturing cell
Follow all safety standards and operational regulations
Support the training and development of manufacturing associates
Contribute to quality improvement by reducing scrap and improving production throughput
Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering Industrial Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering
Minimum 10 years of experience in gear design and manufacturing
Required technical experience:
Oerlikon G Series gear grinders
Kapp Niles VX Series gear grinders
Klingelnberg P Series inspection machines
Gear shaping hobbing and skiving processes
Bevel and spur gear roll testing machines (Gleason preferred)
KiMOS and KISSsoft for gear design and evaluation
PFMEA and DFMEA development
Experience working with carburized and nitrided steel and post-case-hardening processing
Physical requirements:
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
Ability to push or pull up to 60 pounds
Minimum grip strength of 50 pounds
Ability to reach above shoulder height (65 inches)
Additional Requirements
U.S. citizenship required
Ability to obtain a U.S. Government security clearance if required
Must be eligible for a government security investigation for access to classified information
Pre-employment drug testing is required as part of a drug-free workplace policy
