This split position will be based out of Roseburg maintenance from May 1 to October 31 on a travelling crew and will also work out of Idleyld Park maintenance from November 1 to April 30. The successful candidate will use their personal vehicle to travel to the Idleyld Park maintenance station during the winter. Eligibility for mileage reimbursements is dependent on the number of miles traveled from the reporting locations.

A day in the life:
Perform striping operations including applying maintaining and removing roadway markings; operate and maintain equipment; interpret plans; handle hazardous materials and identify potential safety or liability concerns.
Travel for striping operations on a traveling crew throughout Southwest Oregon from May through October annually.
Operate a variety of heavy and light equipment and tools tomaintainand repair various surfaces.
Assistwith weather related emergencies andoperatesnowplows deicertrucksand other equipment to clear snow from roadways.
Perform minor surface repairs including pothole and concrete patching and small inlay work.
Clear debris clear brush mowgrassand spray roadside vegetation.
Maintain drainage systems dig and clean ditchesandrepair culvertsinletsand erosion.
Maintain wooded areas which includes replanting pruningthinningor trimming treesshrubsand groundcover.
Service and repair tools and motorized equipment.
Perform minor maintenance including janitorial work landscapingpaintingand light carpentry.
Exposure to noise extreme heights all weather conditions heavy equipmentpesticidesand hazardous waste materials is expected.
Must be able to move around rough terrain bend and stoop for extended periods and may need tolift upto100pounds.
May need to be available after hours on weekends and holidays for emergency on call andweather relatedpurposes.

The salary range listed is the non-PERS monthly salary range. If you are already a participating PERS member or once you become PERS eligible the salary range will increase by 6.95%.

Minimum qualifications:
One year of experience performing basic highway maintenance work;
OR
Two years of general landscaping maintenance mechanical farming logging and/or construction experience or training.
Special Qualifications:
CDL-A Required: Employee will be required to use a commercial motor vehicle to conduct business. You must possess a current valid commercial drivers license A (CDL-A) with no air brake restrictions no 5th wheel restrictions and no manual transmission restrictions to be considered eligible for this position. You must also have or be able to obtain a tanker endorsement within 30 days of hire.
A valid driver license and an acceptable driving record are required for this position. We will conduct pre-employment driving records checks including Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Clearinghouse registration and full query check for our final candidate(s) and annual query for current employees.
As of Sept. 29 2025 the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) has rescinded prior guidance that allowed state DMVs to issue limited term commercial drivers licenses (CDLs). As a result individuals who hold a lawful employment authorization document (EAD) are no longer eligible to obtain a commercial learners permit (CLP) or commercial drivers license (CDL). This federal policy change may impact candidates applying for positions that require a CDL. For more information please refer to the FMCSA announcement and the accompanying FAQ.
This position requires a maximum 30 minute response time to the Roseburg Maintenance Station at 3339 Old Highway 99S Roseburg Oregon from May to October for emergency call-outs.
This position requires a maximum 60 minute response time to 2026 Steelhead Caddis Road Idleyld Park Oregon from November to April for emergency call-outs.

Experiencein road maintenance construction logging farming mechanical and/or in a maintenance training program such as ODOT High School to Highway program ODOT/ODF Fire and Ice program Job Corps etc.
Winter maintenance experience such as sandingdeicingor using snow blowers or snowplows.
Experience using hand tools and operating light and heavy equipment such as tractors excavatorsloadersor dump trucks.
Experience working in conditions that may be hazardous.
Experience completing basic mechanical repairs on light and heavy vehicles or equipment.
Experience working on a team.
