Senior clinician position at St Vincents Hospital Melbournes High Risk Foot Service - an NADC Centre of Excellence
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Podiatrist to join our Podiatry and Clinical Education teams to lead the development and delivery of clinical education for podiatrists at St Vincents Hospital Melbourne who work in the High Risk Foot Service Community Rehabilitation Centre Residential Aged Care home therapy service and acute and sub-acute admitted services. You will play an integral role in promoting innovation and excellence in clinical practice and education across the services.
Duties
Support St Vincents Hospital Melbourne Podiatrists to provide the highest standard of clinical practice through effective clinical education and supervision
Coordinate the undergraduate student placement program
Contribute to continuous improvement service development and research within the department
Provide the highest standard of podiatry services to patients through effective assessment treatment evaluation team liaison and discharge planning
Classifications for this position will range from CV9 - CV12 ($104135 - $118981 per annum pro rata for part time).
About You
Current Podiatry AHPRA Registration
Extensive experience in the assessment and management of diabetes and high-risk foot disease within a hospital setting
Highly developed communication and leadership skills
Demonstrated ability to work effectively within an interdisciplinary team
Demonstrated participation and leadership in quality and continuous improvement
Relevant postgraduate qualifications and professional memberships will be highly regarded

The Podiatry Department provides podiatry and inter-disciplinary high risk foot services to patients in acute subacute residential home based and correctional settings. Services operate across Fitzroy and Kew sites.

3. LOCAL WORK ENVIRONMENT
The position will support Podiatry Clinical Education across all areas of St. Vincents Hospital Melbourneincluding those working in the Allied Health & Pharmacy Programs Health Independence Programs and StVincents at Home program that operate from the Fitzroy Kew North Richmond and Fairfield campuses. Intotal there are approximately 450 FTE Allied Health (headcount 600) working across SVHM. This position isbased at the Fitzroy Campus of SVHM but will provide support across all SVHM sites and programs and isexpected to attend these sites on a regular basis.

4. POSITION PURPOSE
The Podiatry Educator is a role that aims to ensure the skill development and delivery of effectiveclinical care of Podiatrists in clinical practice across all areas of St. Vincents Hospital Melbourneincluding the High Risk Foot Service Community Rehabilitation Centre Residential Aged Care hometherapy service and acute and sub-acute admitted services. ThePodiatry Educator will coordinate theundergraduate student placement program at SVHM. The incumbent will play a key role in supporting Podiatrists to develop their clinical practice skillsthrough diverse and comprehensive learning opportunities. The incumbent will ensure educationdelivered by Podiatry is up to date clinically relevant professional and in line with contemporaryevidence-based practice.
The Podiatry Educator will be a role model for others demonstrating well-developed clinicalknowledge of the discipline areas high-level skill and knowledge in practice education feedbackmechanisms and supervision and refined leadership and management skills. The Podiatry Educatorwill provide clinical supervision of staff co-treatment within a skill development framework andorientation to practice in line with standards set by the Podiatry Board of Australia and theDepartment of Health Clinical Supervision Framework. The Podiatry Educator will lead and develop both Podiatry and interprofessional education
opportunities providing education to staff based on identified priorities across the service areas tosupport workforce development. The role will have strong relationships with key stakeholders including service managers the Allied
Health Interdisciplinary Education Lead other Allied Health Educators and the SVHM Education andLearning department.
5. POSITION DUTIES
Work collaboratively with the Podiatry leadership team Interdisciplinary Clinical Educators
and Operational Managers to further develop Clinical Education at St Vincents Melbourne
Promote a culture of reflection continuous learning and workforce development.
Develop effective working relationships with all teams to ensure rich learning experienceswithin St Vincents Melbourne.
Identify developing needs and plan and provide education to support staff in deliveringeffective clinical care.
Support junior staff in orientation to the health service and the requirements of clinicalpractice.
Maintain a high degree of clinical competence
Develop and review education resources coordinate and facilitate ongoing support and inservice education for staff at SVHM to continuously improve service levels provided topatients/clients.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge skills and practice by researching and developing adulteducation principles models of best practice in training and education and developingtraining programs to support and improve the delivery of education to staff.
Communicate effectively in a culturally sensitive manner with patients/clients families andother health care professionals to plan and implement intervention strategies ensuringpatient needs are identified and addressed.
Act as an appropriate and effective role model and promote a culture and supportingpractices that reflect the organisational values through demonstrated behaviours andinteractions with patients/clients/employees.
Support the education of staff in the requirements of the National Safety and Quality HealthService Standards.
To support effective clinical supervision functions across the profession
Where directed to provide clinical supervision
Profile staff credentialing and competency standards for clinical practice at SVHM includingdevelopment of competency standards.
Collaborate with other educators to audit/ monitor/evaluate and maintain records of clinicaleducation delivery and efficacy
Support development of Advanced Scope of Practice initiatives
Facilitate and support required learning initiatives

Representation of Podiatry: Provides an expert resource for delivery of the Podiatry ClinicalEducation Program across campuses and advises and represents the Chief Podiatrist asrequired on matters relating to Podiatry practice.
Represents and promotes the SVHM Podiatry department Allied Health and St VincentsHealth within and external to St Vincents Health.
Attend SVHM orientation upon commencement
Maintain clinical registration and any required indemnity cover
Always work within approved scope of practice under supervision by more senior clinicalstaff as appropriate
Take personal responsibility for the quality and safety of work undertaken
Take all necessary care and precautions when undertaking clinical procedures
Complete annual clinical competencies
Maintain skills and knowledge necessary to safely and skilfully undertake clinical work
Consult with peers and other experts and refer to other healthcare workers whenappropriate and in a timely manner
Collaborate and clearly communicate with patients/clients and the healthcare team
Participate in clinical risk management and continuous quality improvement activities as partof day-to-day work
Ensure consumers receive information in an appropriate and accessible format

8. SELECTION CRITERIA
8.1 ESSENTIAL REGISTRATION LICENSE OR QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor of Podiatry Equivalent
Registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
A current drivers licence

8.2 EXPERIENCE and OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum of six years post-graduate experience
Experience in supporting the development of others
Well-developed clinical and leadership skills
Excellent knowledge of the Victorian health care system.
Well-developed organisation planning and problem-solving skills.
Well-developed interpersonal skills that incorporate excellent communication.
Demonstrated ability to liaise with internal and external peers stakeholders and clients.

Competency in using Microsoft Office programmes and database systems.
Demonstrated ability to provide training and education to clinicians and students
Relevant training and experience in providing clinical supervision and familiarity with the Department of Health Victorian Allied Health Clinical Supervision Framework.
Ability to deliver and evaluate education and supervision programs

Understanding of evidence based practice and with a focus on application to clinical practice.
