Job Summary
Vancouver Shipyards (VSY) Contracts and Commercial Department is looking for a talented Contracts Specialist reporting to the Director Commercial and Contracts Canadian Coast Guard (CCG) and the Director Commercial and Contracts Navy Program.
The Contracts Specialist will work in a team environment under the leadership of Senior Contracts Specialist. Among other things this role may support Contract proposal and Contract change proposal development & review development of procurement summaries development of best value business cases management of external and internal customer relationship and the administration of Prime Contracts. The Prime Contracts team ensures that VSYs contract management standards and processes are properly applied all VSY and customer obligations are met and contractual risks are identified reported and managed
Note: This position qualifies for an optional hybrid work schedule after 90 days of onsite work and onboarding. Employees will be subject to the terms of the Flexible Work Policy Agreement.
What youll do
- Responsible for keeping clear records of all contractual documentation and approval documentation in accordance with the companys operating procedures.
- Responsible for inputting contractual information into internal databases and ensuring this is accurate and up to date; ensuring all contract amendment activity is clearly tracked and assisting with the reporting of this.
- Assist with the communication of contractual updates to internal stakeholders
- Supports preparation and review of Contract Proposals Procurement Summaries and Contract Change Proposals with internal stakeholders for the customer. Also support review of contract amendments with the customer as needed. If required the specialist will consult with legal counsel regarding interpretation of issues.
- Prepares presents and executes agreement documents covering the prime contracts and amendments ensuring the execution of contractual documentation is in accordance with the companys delegation of authority policy.
- Provides thorough and timely review of documents drafted by other teams identifying evaluating and mitigating commercial and contractual risk to the company.
- Supports communication with the Customer and internal stakeholders; assists team in translating needs into feasible work plans.
- Works with Customers regarding contract deliverables including documentation plans milestones and other unique contract requirements.
- Keeps accurate easily accessible and complete records of the Companys contractual and business matters for the scope of work assigned to them.
- Ensures that the business area is cognizant of the requirement to have these agreements properly expressed and executed in a timely manner to protect the interests of the business area as well as the Company.
- Keeps immediate supervisor and the business area appraised of issues identified.
- Where possible assists with internal queries relating to the requirements and obligations of the prime contracts.
- Maintains a good understanding of the processes used by the Company to monitor its day to day affairs and follow those processes (e.g. contract approval timesheet recording performance reporting).
What youll bring
- Bachelors degree preferably in business
- 3 years experience reviewing drafting and/or negotiating contract terms in a related industry or government
- Experience working in a customer-focused environment
- Experience improving contract management concepts and processes (e.g. providing reports and dashboards for contract management planning and analysis)
- Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently and in a team setting to contribute successfully on cross-functional teams
- Strong computer skills (e.g. proficiency with MS Word Excel PowerPoint SharePoint etc.)
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Ability to analyze/synthesize data derive conclusions and present findings to Senior Leadership
- Strong problem-solving skills and the self-confidence to try something new
- Experience with and knowledge of Canadian Federal Government Procurement agreements including SACC knowledge is a benefit.
- Must be able to secure a Canadian Government (CISD) Personal Security Clearance and controlled goods registration

The estimated salary for this position is $84600 - $103400 In determining final salary Seaspan considers many factors including the successful Candidates skillset and experience as well as position location and internal equity. The final base salary offer will be at the Companys sole discretion and presented as part of a competitive total compensation package.
