The Senior R&D Chemist plays a key role in developing and optimizing innovative personal care formulations that align with Apollos growth strategy. This position is responsible for end-to-end formulation activities from advanced bench development and testing through scale-up and technology transfer ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards. The Senior R&D Chemist applies strong leadership skills by guiding projects supporting and mentoring team members and collaborating cross-functionally with Quality Purchasing Production and other departments to deliver high-quality competitive products to market.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Leads and/or conducts formulation and reformulation projects to meet all requirements including creation of theoretical formulation advanced bench mix development product description/formulation sheets lab tests stability testing/monitoring color verification etc.
Writes and/or reviews procedures and specifications needed to support formulation activities and ensure technical robustness and compliance.
Documents test results specifications and final formula procedures in a standard format for inclusion in the Master File.
Participates in and supports the technology transfer from pilot scale to commercial manufacturing runs ensuring successful scale-up.
Communicates in a timely and proactive fashion all information regarding formulation project status raw material research results etc. to all appropriate individuals in Purchasing Sales Finance and Quality departments.
Ensures the maintenance and/or adherence to good laboratory practices and all safety regulations within the laboratory and within the plant during scale up activities.
Provides mentorship and guidance to junior chemists and chemists supporting capability development
Proactively monitors the industry landscape and Apollos formulation database to ensure Apollos formulations remain cost competitive and aligned with market trends.
Proactively ensures the proper transition of technologies from the Laboratory to Compounding Production Quality Purchasing and other affiliated departments to ensure timely and successful first batch manufacturing and launches.
Keeps abreast of current trends practices developments and regulatory changes which would impact products procedures or formulations and communicates relevant updates and impacts to the R&D Department.
Evaluates new and alternative raw materials for functionality and stability cost-effectiveness.
Use creativity in allowing Apollo to compete in any or every personal care arena desired creating new innovative product formulations in line with Apollos business strategy across personal care categories.
Work with the appropriate departments to ensure proper scale up and first batch quality outcomes.
Ensure formulations are competitively priced without compromising quality or performance.
Proactive formulary development to generate intellectual property assets.
Provides technical guidance and support day-to-day coordination support to R&D team members to ensure alignment quality and consistency of work.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
Bachelors degree in chemistry Chemical Engineering or related field (post-secondary education required).
At least 5 years of progressive laboratory experience in formulation development preferably within the personal care or cosmetics industry.
Strong in-depth understanding of laboratory techniques stability testing and Good Laboratory Practices (GLP).
Experience with scale-up processes and technology transfer to manufacturing is an asset.
Strong analytical problem-solving and technical documentation skills.
Ability to independently research evaluate and apply raw materials industry trends and regulatory requirements.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills with experience working in cross-functional environments.
Creative and solution-oriented mindset with the ability to contribute to innovative product development and cost-effective formulation strategies.
