Job Summary
The Custodian positions role is to keep assigned facilities clean safe and well-maintained for the use of district staff and patrons. This includes cleaning and minor maintenance/repairs of buildings and equipment using proper methods materials tools and equipment.
What Youll Do
- Open and secure facilities including gates buildings and security systems; clean and maintain assigned facilities and grounds utilizing custodial best practices and industry standards.
- Monitor and maintain assigned facilities mechanical and structural components; follow preventative maintenance standards and manufacturer recommendations to reduce repair needs.
- Inventory order and replace facility consumables such as lightbulbs air/water filters batteries sensors locks etc.
- Perform minor carpentry painting electrical plumbing and HVAC tasks including clearing clogs resetting breakers and repairing replacing or installing building fixtures and components.
- Act as a point of contact for custodial and other vendors at specified sites.
- Provide guidance on the scope of work and contract language and conduct quality control inspections of vendor services.
- Maintain a safe working environment utilizing knowledge skills and abilities as well as performing monthly building safety inspections.
- Utilize waste reducing techniques green cleaning methods energy reducing measures; incorporate energy efficient recycling promote reuse and proper waste and hazardous material disposal.
- Perform snow/ice removal at assigned sites.
- Follow all district safety standards maintaining a clean and hazard-free work environment fostering a safe working environment and immediately report all unsafe conditions and incidents.
- Maintain a supportive working environment and demonstrate a desire to exceed the expectations of internal and external customers.
- Perform other duties as required.
What Youll Need
- Must be 18 years of age or older at the time of hire.
- High School Diploma/GED; Less than 1 year of experience; or equivalent combination of education training and experience.
- Valid Drivers License in good standing and the ability to safely tow trailers to and from worksites.
- Must have and maintain CPR AED and First Aid Certification or obtain within (6) months.
- Must pass a medical evaluation and fit test per OSHA regulations to ensure a respirator can be safely worn when required.
- OSHA 10-hour OSHA 1910 Training required within (6) months.
- Well-versed in cleaning and maintenance methods materials and equipment.
- Thorough understanding of occupational hazards SDS HAZMAT and necessary safety precautions and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Skilled in performing technical and routine cleaning and maintenance tasks.
- Competent in operating automatic scrubbers power washers carpet cleaning equipment window washing snow removal equipment hand tools power tools and related equipment.
- Capable of managing multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Adept at understanding and following verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to utilize software programs; workorder systems Outlook etc.
- Demonstrated success in establishing and maintaining productive working relationships.
- Strong communication skills both verbally and in writing.
- Strong organizational skills to maintain accurate records and data.
Schedule Pay & Benefits
- Monday-Friday 7am - 3pm pm.
- Starting Pay: $19.92 - $22.00 per hour.
- Some requirements of callouts holdovers and early starts. Weekend and Holiday coverage may be required for special events.

Work Setting
- Based out of the headquarters facility in Wheaton IL. Does include travel to other district locations throughout the county.
- Tool and safety equipment provided.
