6 Month Contract With A Local Authority
Job Purpose
To assess and manage a wide range of planning applications providing professional planning advice and ensuring development proposals comply with relevant planning policies and legislation. The role supports high-quality development while balancing community environmental and economic considerations.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess process and make recommendations on planning applications including householder applications listed building consents prior approvals and lawful development certificates.
- Conduct site visits to evaluate development proposals and their impact.
- Negotiate with applicants and developers to secure amendments that improve design quality and ensure compliance with planning policies.
- Provide pre-application advice to residents developers and agents on development proposals.
- Prepare detailed accurate officer reports with clear recommendations.
- Present applications and recommendations to the Planning Committee where required.
- Ensure all decisions align with the Local Plan and the National Planning Policy Framework.
- Manage planning appeals and contribute to appeal statements where necessary.
- Maintain accurate records and ensure timely processing of applications within statutory deadlines.
Requirements
- Degree in Town Planning or a related discipline
- Understanding of planning legislation policies and procedures
- Knowledge of development management processes and regulatory frameworks
- Awareness of local and national planning policy requirements
- Strong analytical and decision-making skills
- Excellent written communication particularly in report writing
- Effective negotiation and influencing skills
- Ability to manage a high-volume and varied caseload
- Ability to handle challenging or confrontational situations professionally
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
Additional Information
- Working Hours: 36 hours per week
- Pay: Bi-weekly payments
