Elementary School Counselor 26-27-SY

POSITION TITLE:COUNSELOR

REPORTS TO:Building Principal

JOB GOALS: Maintain guidance and counseling services for elementary students including sessions and group activities in cooperation with faculties and parents to provide opportunities for optimum growth and development of these students.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Masters degree in guidance and counseling
• Valid Arkansas counselors certificate

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Provide counseling individually and/or in small groups for students referred by teachers principals parents and others.
2. Work with parents and school staff to meet the individual needs of students referred.
3. Make home visits as needed to counsel with parents (guardians) of students referred.
4. Work with referral sources in meeting special needs of students referred.
5. Make anecdotal records for each student served individually for counseling purpose only.
6. Provide classroom guidance and counseling activities for students.
7. Assist teachers in conducting group guidance activities.
8. Assist teachers in interpreting and using standardized test results.
9. Inservice staff on services of the Guidance Department.
10. Participate in other school activities.
11. Know Board of Education policies Desegregation Plan district and school guidelines and regulations and adhere to the same.
12. Familiar with ESchool responsibilities including registration and scheduling.
13. Proficient in using Cognos (traning provided by APSCN Adminstrator)
14. Other duties as assigned.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Ability to perform duties with awareness of all federal state and district requirements. Ability to demonstrate a professional disposition when working with staff and the school community. Ability to speak clearly and concisely both in oral and written communication.
