Position Details:

  • Position Title: Food Service Aide
  • Position Type: Multiple Positions Available Permanent and Temporary; Full-time Part-time and Casual
  • Location: Opportunities available at any of the following Care Centres Brentwood Chinook Kingsland or Southwood.
  • Hours of Work: Shifts include days evenings nights and weekends.
  • Union Status: Unionized

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assists in meal preparation and serving of food and beverages in accordance with designated procedures and work routines as required. Examples:
  • Serves food to residents in dining room ensuring that proper diets are given to the proper person
  • Ensures alternate entrees are offered to residents as required
  • Informs Cook of changes in resident food consumption (e.g. not eating)
  • Sets up meal trays
  • Makes coffee and tea as required
  • Assists residents with eating by cutting meat cracking eggs etc.
  • Pours juices milk etc.
  • Prepares cold cereals butters bread makes toast
  • Sets tables in dining room
  • Assists Cook as required
  • Delivers nourishments to dietary areas and kitchenettes
  • Prepares nourishments under the direction of the Cook
  • Cleans dietary equipment and areas and stores all items used in food services in accordance with designated procedures and work routines as required. Examples:
  • Cleans trays and dishes and resets trays and tables
  • Cleans and stores dishes utensils cutlery cookware etc.
  • Cleans and refills sugar salt and pepper containers
  • Cleans cupboards shelves storeroom refrigerators freezers dishwasher etc.
  • Cleans equipment such as lowerators grills coffee machines ovens toasters steam cooler etc.
  • Returns and stores leftover food items
  • Stores food products and dietary supplies as required.
  • Follows manufacturers instructions in the operation and use of all equipment and chemicals.
  • Performs duties as specified in sanitation and infection control procedures.
  • Responsible for daily temperatures as assigned.
  • Removes and disposes of garbage according to prescribed procedures.
  • Performs all duties in a safe and efficient manner. Maintains work area in a clean orderly and safe condition.
  • Reports unsafe hazardous working conditions and any equipment malfunctions to their supervisor/designate.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to read write and comprehend English.
  • Mentally and physically able to perform duties as outlined including physical activities such as standing walking bending stretching and lifting heavy objects. Must be free of allergies or related conditions which may be aggravated by work with detergents soaps and chemicals regularly used in the department.
  • Currently hold or required to obtain upon hire Level 1 Food Safety Certification.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrates concern and interest in providing quality care and service for residents.
  • Ability to function as an effective team member with other staff residents families and the public.
