Terms of Employment:
This FLSA exempt position (salaried non-hourly) is on a work calendar of 187 days per school year. Pay
is based on years of experience from the annually reviewed and board of directors adopted Teachers
salary scale. Current year salary scales may be viewed on our school website.
In addition to the general teacher job description and duties listed below the band teacher must also meet
the following requirements and perform these additional duties:
Primary Purpose:
Provides instrumental band instruction and encourages students to develop the skill and ability to excel in
ability; responsible for contributing to the educational program as a whole and to the growth of each
student; provide opportunities for students to participate in a high-level challenging curriculum in the
areas of responsibility.
Education/Certification:
Bachelors Degree required
Music Degree (Band Emphasis); Teacher Certification (Band Emphasis) EC-12 required
Special Knowledge/Skills:
General knowledge of teaching techniques and procedures
Additional Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of overall operation of school band programs
Ability to manage budget and personnel
Knowledge of state TMEA policies governing band
Ability to implement policy and procedures
Ability to interpret data
Strong communication public relations and interpersonal skills
Experience:
At least three years of successful band experience including classroom teaching and band program
administration preferred.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Establishes performance criteria for competition and evaluates students musical abilities initially
and on a regular basis.
Employs a variety of instructional techniques and media consistent with the needs and capabilities
of the student musical group involved.
Manages and supervises band activities contests and practice sessions that promote individual
growth in musical skills teamwork and appropriate concert/performance etiquette.
Keeps informed of and ensures compliance with all ACA/TMEA/UIL rules and guidelines.
Recruits and retains student membership in the band program as well as monitor and enforce
student eligibility criteria for extracurricular participation.
Works with the Principal in scheduling competitions and coordinating arrangements.
Cooperates with other members of the school staff in planning and implementing instructional goals
and objectives for the overall educational development of student performances.
Assists in the selection of equipment and instructional materials.
Compiles maintains and files all reports records inventory and additional required data using a
music management system and other required documents.
Complies with policies established by federal and state laws State Board of Education rules and the
local board policy.
Travels with band students and supervises group during band competitions in assigned events.
Maintains proper and appropriate discipline among students during band contests practice sessions
and while on trips off school property.
Encourages by example and through instruction sportsmanlike conduct in all phases of band
participation.
Establishes and maintains open lines of communication with student musicians and their parents.
Articulates the districts mission and goals for the band to the community and solicits its support in
realizing the mission.
Demonstrates awareness of district-community needs and initiates activities to meet those identified
needs.
Demonstrates the use of appropriate and effective techniques for community and parent
involvement.
Develops professional skills appropriate to job assignment.
Demonstrates behavior that is professional ethical and responsible.
Assesses and responds to needs related to job responsibilities.
Develops and coordinates a continuing evaluation of the teaching program and implements changes
based on the findings.
Follows all the rules regulations and policies of Arlington Classics Academy- Middle and follows
directives from superiors.
Follows attendance policy as assigned by Supervisor.
Duties and Responsibilities of the General Teacher
Primary Purpose:
Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in the core academic subject area
assigned to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual emotional physical and social growth. Enable
students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.
Education/Certification:
Bachelors degree from accredited university
Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or required training for subject and level
assigned
ESL endorsement preferred
Demonstrated competency in the core academic subject area assigned
Must have reliable transportation and have valid Texas drivers license and a good driving record.
Must meet and maintain schools liability insurance coverage eligibility.
Experience:
Two years classroom experience preferred
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of core academic subjects assigned
General knowledge of curriculum and instruction
Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
Strong organizational communication and interpersonal skills

Instructional Strategies
1. Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of the districts curriculum program
and show written evidence of preparation as required.
2. Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles.
3. Present subject matter according to guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency board
policies and administrative regulations.
4. Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies activities materials and equipment that
reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned.
5. Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities.
6. Work with other members of staff to determine instructional goals objectives and methods according
to district requirements.
7. Plan and supervise assignments of teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s).
8. Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process.
9. Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education
students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP).
10. Prepare lessons pick music for and teach non-varsity band
11. Teach all beginner brass classes (heterogenous groups)
12. Develop students understanding of music theory
Student Growth and Development
1. Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits.
2. Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
3. Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned. Sponsor outside activities approved by
the campus principal.
4. Be a positive role model for students support the mission of the school district.
5. Classroom Management and Organization
6. Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical social and
emotional development of students.
7. Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
8. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students equipment materials and facilities.
9. Assist in selection of books equipment and other instructional materials.
Program Support and Collaboration
Assist with Varsity Band as needed
Organization and Materials Management
1. Manage music library copies and student music folders
2. Maintain organizational systems in the music hall
Campus Duties and Professional Responsibilities
1. Perform before-school lunch and after-school duties
2. Support standard teacher responsibilities (e.g. administering STAAR tests attending professional
development completing required annual training)
Communication
3. Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents students
principals and teachers.
4. Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues students parents and community members.
5. Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
Professional Growth and Development
1. Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
2. Keep informed of and comply with state district and school regulations and policies for classroom
teachers.
3. Compile maintain and file all physical and computerized reports records and other documents
required.
4. Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
1. Supervise assigned teacher aide(s).

2. Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent standing stooping bending pulling and pushing.
Move small stacks of textbooks media equipment desks and other classroom equipment weighing
approximately 20 pounds.
