The Department

  • You will join a prestigious faculty where Mathematics is the most popular subject at A-Level and Further Mathematics with many students progressing to STEM degrees at Russell Group universities.

  • The school utilizes a Deep Learning approach moving away from rote memorization toward a comprehensive understanding of mathematical proofs and their applications in the real world.

Core Responsibilities

  1. Academic Excellence: Teaching Mathematics across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 with a significant focus on A-Level and Further Mathematics (including Decision Mechanics and Pure modules).

  2. Abstract Reasoning: Guiding students through the complexities of calculus complex numbers and matrices encouraging them to find elegant solutions to non-routine problems.

  3. Oxbridge Preparation: Providing specialized mentoring and Extension Club sessions for students preparing for the MAT (Mathematics Admissions Test) or STEP papers.

  4. Statistical Analysis: Teaching students how to handle large data sets and understand the ethics of probability in the modern worldessential skills for Bristols growing data-science sector.

  5. Competition Coaching: Coordinating the schools entries into the UKMT Senior Challenge and the British Mathematical Olympiad.


The Successful Candidate We are looking for a scholar-practitioner who can bridge the gap between classroom theory and advanced application. Requirements include:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a first-class or 2:1 degree in Mathematics or a highly related field (e.g. Theoretical Physics).

  • High-Level Mastery: The ability to teach Further Mathematics with total confidence including topics like hyperbolic functions and differential equations.

  • Infectious Enthusiasm: A teacher who can demonstrate the beauty of a proof and motivate students to see Mathematics as a creative endeavour.

  • Professional Presence: The ability to communicate effectively with high-attaining students and highly engaged parents within an independent school setting.
