Fit for the Role

EPCOR Water Services is seeking selfmotivated hardworking individuals with prior labourer experience who are prepared to work outdoors in all weather conditions to support the operation and maintenance of the WWC Local System Construction network in Edmonton AB. This role is best suited for candidates who are comfortable with the demands of industrial and municipal infrastructure environments understand the importance of physical capability and safetyfocused work practices and can consistently meet operational expectations.

Preference will be given to current EPCOR employees and candidates with construction experience related to Local Systems work particularly those who already possess much of the required training. Candidates without relevant labour experience the physical ability to perform strenuous work or a strong commitment to safety are unlikely to find this role a fit.

What youd be responsible for

Under the direction of the Manager Local System Construction and reporting to the Team Lead Reporting to the Team Lead Local System Construction and working under the direction of the Manager Local System Construction the Labourer 2 is accountable for a variety of operational and support duties including:

  • Performing routine labouring work related to the operation construction and maintenance of Water and Wastewater Collection Systems.
  • Operating noncomplex equipment and machinery such as tampers jackhammers concrete cutting saws vehicles skid steers and other designated equipment requiring equivalent training or experience.
  • Assisting with daily inspections lubrication and minor maintenance of equipment and vehicles.
  • Supporting the business unit through tasks such as yard and shop equipment operation parts collection and delivery tool maintenance and calibration equipment cleaning and housekeeping.
  • Reporting equipment and asset deficiencies through IVARA GeoFit and directly to the Team Lead.
  • Setting up and removing temporary traffic control including barricades and flagging in areas with high traffic volumes.
  • Performing daytoday operational duties standard to a Water and Wastewater utility along with other related duties as assigned.
  • Demonstrating a safe accountable disciplined and performanceoriented approach to work that aligns with EPCORs values and operational standards.

Whats Required to Be Successful

The successful candidate will meet the following qualifications and competencies:

Education & Certification

  • High school diploma GED or equivalent level of secondary education is required

Licensing & Transportation

  • Valid Class 5 Alberta Drivers Licence is required (Class 3Q is an asset)
    • Maximum of 6 demerits and ability to qualify for and maintain an EPCOR drivers permit
    • Poor driving behaviour may result in a candidate not being considered regardless of demerits currently on file
    • A driver abstract may be required; past infractions for unsafe driving may result in nonselection
  • Possess a thorough knowledge of the equipment tools and materials used in the Water and/or Wastewater Collection Systems.
  • Alberta Environment Water or Wastewater Collection Certification Level 1 is preferred.
  • Knowledge of or previous experience working in a Water or Wastewater utility would be considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of the standard methods materials tools and equipment used in the Water or Wastewater utility as well as rules of the safe operation of the assigned equipment.
  • Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions applicable to the work performed

Technical Skills & Physical Requirements

  • Minimum one (1) year of experience in a physical labour role preferably in a utility environment.
  • Ability to withstand strenuous physical work lift up to 50 lbs and work effectively outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate equipment safely skillfully and in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Intermediate computer skills including experience with systems such as IVARA GeoFit SWP App and Microsoft Office (Word Outlook Excel). Experience with Granite is considered an asset.

  • Final Wage and Step will be determined at the time of selection and based on a combination of factors as outlined in the Collective Agreement.

  • The results of this competition may be used to fill similar vacant positions for up to six (6) months.
