Job Summary

SAFETY & SECURITY SUMMER INTERN - FOR CTA STUDENT

The Milwaukee Rescue Mission is offering one CTA student a 6-week paid internship in our Safety Department this summer. This paid internship is available only for a current CTA 9TH 10th 11th or 12th grade high school student (including May graduates). The Safety & Security Intern will assist and support the Safety & Security Team in creating and maintaining a safe and secure environment primarily at our Central Campus but with flexibility to work at our North Campus as needed.

PAY RATE: $11.00/Hour

WORK SCHEDULE:
  • Temporary/Seasonal position June 15 - July 24 2026
  • Part-time 16 hours/week Monday-Thursday 11:00am-3:00pm
LOCATION: Central Campus 830 N 19th Street Milwaukee WI. 53233

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Incident Reporting Support: Assist in documenting incidents drafting reports and maintaining organized security records including daily activity logs like our officers currently do.
  • Surveillance Monitoring: Observe and report any suspicious activity using the Missions surveillance systems under supervision.
  • Access Control Assistance: Support Safety & Security staff in monitoring entrances checking visitor credentials and ensuring authorized access.
  • Patrol Support: Accompany Safety & Security officers on routine patrols of the facility to ensure safety and provide a visible security presence.
  • Emergency Response Support: Participate in training exercises and assist during emergency response drills or actual incidents.
  • Customer Service: Provide courteous assistance to residents staff and visitors answering questions and offering directions when needed.
  • Safety Audits: Assist in conducting safety inspections of the premises identifying and reporting hazards or maintenance needs.
  • Conflict De-escalation Training: Observe and learn de-escalation techniques from experienced Safety & Security personnel during incidents.
  • Policy Compliance Monitoring: Help ensure residents and staff adhere to safety and security policies through observation and reporting.
  • Collaboration with Community Resources: Support Safety & Security staff in liaising with law enforcement first responders and community partners when necessary.
  • All other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Current CTA 9TH 10th 11th or 12th grade high school student (or graduated in May)
  • Minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.0
  • Good school behavior record
  • Able and willing to take and follow directions from staff members
  • Developing organizational prioritization and time-management skills
  • Developing collaboration and communication skills
  • Detail-orientated
  • Proficient in certain technology platforms: (examples: Excel Word Outlook Gmail Google)
  • Culturally competent and relational displaying suitable interpersonal communication and mentoring skills
  • Ability to work effectively with others
  • Accepting of supervisor direction correction and feedback
  • Enthusiastic with a positive attitude and readiness to be a team player
  • Reliable in work attendance and being on time daily
  • Must be able to handle physical workload ability to stand or sit for long periods of time walking stair climbing kneeling squatting crouching reaching handling and gripping without difficulty repetitive movement of both hands and arms occasional lifting or moving items with a maximum weight of 35 lbs. a short distance (ex: floor to shelf or cart) and pushing or pulling heavier items with the use of a cart or dolly
  • Continue developing a genuine concern for the salvation and spiritual welfare for all those encountered through the ministry of MRM seeking to model and share the hope of the gospel within the established responsibilities of this position.
  • A workplace demeanor consistent with a Christian church environment: civil respectful polite and responsive
  • Regular attender of an evangelical church whose theology is in alignment with our Statement of Faith and Statement of Biblical Convictions
  • Be in agreement with and subscribe to the MRM Statement of Faith and the MRM Statement of Biblical Convictions
  • Be a committed follower of the Lord Jesus Christ which is evident in personal testimony and Christian conduct
  • Pass a pre-employment background check and drug test
SEASONAL EMPLOYEE BENEFITS:
