IT IT PMO Leader
Job Summary
Role
The IT PMO Leader is responsible for leading and managing the Project Management Office (PMO) within the IT department. This role is pivotal in driving the strategic alignment of IT projects with business goals ensuring projects are delivered on time within scope and on budget. You will oversee the standardization of project management processes governance and best practices while also managing a team of project managers analysts and coordinators.
This role requires a blend of strategic thinking leadership and hands-on project management experience coupled with the ability to engage with both technical and non-technical stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
Responsibilities
- PMO Leadership & Strategy
- Develop and implement the IT PMO strategy aligned with the organizations goals and objectives.
- Provide leadership and guidance to the PMO team including portfolio managers and project coordinators ensuring high-performance standards and professional growth.
- Promote a culture of accountability collaboration and continuous improvement within the PMO and across project teams.
- Project Governance & Oversight
- Establish and enforce consistent project management methodologies tools and best practices across the organization.
- Oversee the entire project lifecycle from initiation to closure ensuring adherence to project governance and defined processes.
- Implement and maintain project management frameworks including Agile Waterfall or hybrid methodologies as appropriate for various projects.
- Monitor and report on the performance of the IT portfolio ensuring that all projects are progressing according to plan and issues are identified and addressed promptly.
- Review project status reports KPIs and other relevant data to provide insights into project health risks and opportunities.
- Portfolio Management
- Lead the portfolio management process ensuring that all IT projects align with strategic business objectives and available resources.
- Collaborate with senior leadership to prioritize and balance project initiatives ensuring the efficient use of resources across the IT portfolio.
- Stakeholder Management & Communication
- Serve as the primary point of contact for IT project-related communication with senior leadership stakeholders and external vendors.
- Create and present regular reports to executives on project portfolio status risks and mitigation plans.
- Foster strong relationships with business units to ensure project alignment with business needs and priorities.
- Risk & Issue Management
- Proactively identify and manage project risks and issues implementing corrective actions when necessary.
- Establish risk management frameworks and ensure that all project managers are trained to handle risks effectively.
- Ensure risk mitigation strategies are developed communicated and executed to minimize project disruptions.
- Resource Management & Budgeting:
- Develop and maintain a resource management process to ensure the optimal allocation of project resources.
- Oversee the budgeting forecasting and financial tracking of all IT projects ensuring adherence to financial controls and cost management procedures.
- Provide guidance to resource managers and project managers in resource planning staffing and workload balancing.
- Continuous Improvement
- Evaluate the performance of the PMO and suggest improvements to increase effectiveness and efficiency.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and the introduction of new project management tools or technologies.
- Conduct post-project evaluations and lessons learned sessions to improve future project outcomes.
Requirements
Education
- Bachelors degree in Information Technology Business Administration or a related field. PMP PgMP or similar project management certifications preferred.
Experience
- 8 years of experience in IT project management with at least 3-5 years in a leadership role within a PMO.
- Extensive experience with project management methodologies (Agile Scrum Waterfall Hybrid).
- Proven track record in managing complex IT projects from inception to delivery across multiple functional teams.
- Experience with portfolio and resource management financial budgeting and risk management.
- Strong understanding of IT infrastructure software development and digital transformation initiatives.
