The Chief Engineer Agentic Data Ecosystem & Advanced Analyticsis the senior technical authority responsible for defining governing and evolving the banks advanced analytics machine learning and agentic insight capabilities under Westpac Intelligence. The role sets the engineering vision and standards for how analytics models decision systems and agentic capabilities are designed built deployed and operated at enterprise scale.

This role spans Westpac Intelligence and the agentic data ecosystem combining handson technical authority with people leadership. The Chief Engineer ensures teams are aligned to a coherent technical direction while enabling rapid innovation without compromising trust safety or regulatory integrity.

The Data Digital & AI (DDAI) function defines and executes the divisions data digital and AI strategypartnering with business leaders to unlock value through advanced analytics responsible AI and modern digital platforms. The team plays a critical role in enabling smarter decisions improving customer experience and maintaining strong risk and regulatory standards. Within DDAI Westpac Intelligence is the enterprise intelligence layer responsible for scaling analytics AI and decisioning capabilities across the organisation.

The Chief Engineer - Agentic Data Ecosystem & Advanced Analytics works alongside product platform risk and data leaders to shape the technical capabilities that support both central and federated analytics delivery.

In this hands-on and fast-paced role you will

• Define the engineering vision standards and principles for the delivery of advanced analytics machine learning and agentic insight capabilities.
• Own the technical strategy for agentic analytics including autonomous model orchestration decision automation and continuous learning patterns.
• Set enterprise standards for model development deployment monitoring explainability and lifecycle management.
• Guide the design of scalable realtime analytics and advanced analytics platforms that support customer engagement risk and operational use cases.
• Partner with MLOps data platform and engineering leaders to ensure analytics capabilities are productiongrade cloudnative and reusable.
• Embed responsible AI model risk management and regulatory controls into analytics platforms and engineering patterns by design.
• Act as a senior technical advisor to executives translating business strategy into durable engineering capabilities.
• Coach and mentor engineering managers and senior engineers uplifting advanced analytics and AI engineering maturity across the organisation.

Key Accountabilities

• Technical Authority: Accountable for the technical integrity coherence and quality of advanced analytics and agentic insight systems across the enterprise.
• Enterprise Standards & Reuse: Establish and enforce engineering standards that drive reuse interoperability and consistency across teams.
• Innovation with Control: Enable rapid experimentation and deployment of analytics while maintaining strong governance and risk controls.
• Platform Alignment: Ensure analytics and agentic capabilities align with enterprise platforms architectures and strategic roadmaps.

Essential Ingredients for Success

• Extensive experience designing and leading advanced analytics machine learning or data platforms at enterprise scale.
• Proven track record leading engineering teams in complex or regulated environments with strong exposure to model governance and risk.
• Experience shaping technical strategy across multiple teams or domains not just delivering individual systems.
• Deep understanding of advanced analytics ML systems and emerging agentic AI patterns.
• Strong grasp of cloudnative architectures realtime data processing for data and advanced analytics.
• Expertise in explainability observability and lifecycle management for analytics and AI solutions.
• You will be a recognised technical leader able to influence and lead both through authority and direct line management.
• Strong communication skills capable of engaging executives regulators engineers and data scientists.
• Comfortable operating in ambiguity balancing longterm capability building with nearterm delivery outcomes.
