JOB SUMMARY:
The Manager Indirect Tax oversees property tax compliance reporting and planning across Universal Orlando Resort (UOR) and related entities ensuring adherence to state and local regulations across multiple jurisdictions. This role leads to the classification and reporting of taxable property including alignment with the general ledger and oversight of the fixed asset process.
This position also leads the sales and uses tax strategy and review of capital projects across all partnership with Finance Legal and project teams the role supports project planning evaluates tax impacts and identifies opportunities to optimize tax positions while maintaining compliance. The role also provides support for property tax audits disputes and budgeting activities.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Analyze project data including legal documents construction details and invoices to properly classify costs in accordance with jurisdictional property tax guidelines and ensure accurate optimized reporting of taxable property values.
- Lead the sales and use tax strategy and review of capital projects across all parks including evaluating and applying special tax guidance to major attractions and capital improvements. Ensure proper tax treatment of project costs through proactive analysis risk assessment and collaboration with Finance Legal and project teams. Drive consistency in tax application and identify opportunities to optimize tax positions while maintaining compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
- Oversee the multi-jurisdictional property tax compliance process including both tangible personal property and real property tax filings and reviews. Oversee the preparation review and approval of all property tax deliverables to ensure accuracy completeness and compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
- Prepare and maintain the annual property tax budget and ongoing forecasts. Provide timely and accurate property tax estimates for new capital projects and in-service assets and analyze historical trends to support budgeting and financial planning.
- Own and manage the alignment of property tax records with the general ledger including responsibility for the review and reconciliation of the fixed asset register partnering with Finance and Accounting to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Provide analysis and support for ad hoc and non-recurring projects across indirect tax areas. Conduct research evaluate impacts and deliver recommendations to support business initiatives and compliance requirements.
- Manage property tax audits disputes and controversies across multiple jurisdictions driving resolution strategies to achieve favorable outcomes.
- Understands and actively participates in Environmental Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policy procedures training and team member involvement activities.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION:
- Associate degree (AA) is required.
- Bachelors degree is required
EXPERIENCE:
- 5 years of accounting or business experience;
- or equivalent combination of education and experience.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
- Participate occasionally in off-site training and continuing tax-related education
- Read analyze and interpret technical journals financial reports legal documents and government regulations
- Communicate effectively in writing and verbally including preparing reports correspondence and procedures
- Present information clearly to diverse audiences
- Apply strong technical tax knowledge including research and interpretation of statutes and regulations
- Utilize tax technology and property tax compliance and research software
- Interpret legal and organizational documents to develop tax-related policies and procedures
- Support accounting finance and internal control requirements for tax compliance
- Leverage technology data analytics and AI-enabled tools to improve efficiency accuracy and scalability
