Qualifications:
College hours high school diploma or GED
Texas Operators License
Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) pest applicator license (3A)
Ability to plan and evaluate turf lawn and ornamental treatments
Three years experience in ground applications (preferred)
Knowledgeable in IPM thresholds and pest identification
Ability to maintain effective schedules
Effective communication skills
Efficient recordkeeping and time management skills
Physically able to lift 50 pounds
Ability to comprehend written and verbal English
Primary Purpose:
Maintain all district grounds in safe playable condition and participate in campus turf improvement. Comply with state federal and local regulations.
Major Duties or Responsibilities:
- Application of pre-emergent and post-emergent herbicides insecticides and other pest control chemicals.
- Maintain procedures that ensure safety and quality of work.
- Evaluate special pest control problems and take effective action.
- Assist in developing effective outdoor custodial pest control treatment in accordance with the Integrated Pest Management Program.
- Maintain records required by the Integrated Pest Management Coordinator.
- Maintain inventory control of all chemicals used.
- Communicate with IPM Coordinator school personnel and other district employees as needed for scheduling safe applications.
- Complete daily work order documentation TDA recordkeeping and other required forms.
- Work irregular hours overtime or alternate shift work as necessary.
- Other duties as assigned.
Equipment Used:
Hand-held sprayer backpack sprayer spreader push rotary spreader motorized spreader tractor commercial boom sprayer hand and power tools. Light truck or van.
Working Conditions:
Frequent walking twisting reaching bending climbing kneeling moderate lifting and carrying crawling in tight spaces. Work outside and inside. Exposure to dampness and humidity hot and cold weather toxic chemicals and noxious odors. Occasional prolonged or irregular hours.
