The Employment Outreach & Program Assistant connects individuals with employment and community resources while promoting YMCA programs. Through outreach to agencies presentations and participation in cultural events this role increases awareness of available services. Using proven frameworks it guides youth through transitions while enhancing program effectiveness. This role works closely with the community and program staff to expand access to valuable support and opportunities.

In this role you will:

  • Assist program staff in providing program participants with general information and resources including contacts referral services and support (e.g. employment skilled trades entrepreneurship housing education health).
  • Engage youth in transition in accordance with the Stages of Change model a Positive Youth Development Framework and relevant legislation such as the Child and Family Services Act and the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
  • Help program staff maintain accurate records and statistics related to activities undertaken.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of issues and trends related to program participants to provide them with appropriate resources and support.
  • Support outreach efforts to connect with community partners schools and local organizations to promote YMCA employment programs and services.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

You bring:

  • Enrolment in post-secondary education in a related field preferred in Employment Counselling Business or Human Resources Management or equivalent experience.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office including Word Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation relating to employment and local labour market opportunities.
  • Some knowledge of relevant legislation relating to employment.
  • Previous customer service experience.
  • Ability to work in an efficient manner independently and as part of a team.
  • Well-developed interpersonal and relationship-building skills; ability to establish rapport and excellent communication with members staff and volunteers.
  • Excellent written communication skills.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including days evenings and weekends.
  • Commitment to diversity equity inclusion and building a sense of belonging.

  • Focus on the health safety and wellbeing of all children youth and vulnerable people in YMCA programs including understanding legal and moral obligations related to reporting suspected child abuse to Child Protection Services

Canada Summer Jobs Criteria:

  • Are between 15 to 30 years of age at the start of the employment;
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
  • It is a funding requirement of this position that candidates must be a Canadian citizen permanent resident or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment
