The role:
As a Senior Housing Enforcement Officer youll play a vital role in helping East Suffolk remain a safe healthy and thriving place to live. This is your opportunity to make a real difference to our communities by improving housing standards and ensuring residents have homes they can feel secure in.
You will lead on complex investigations into substandard housing and HMOs using a wide range of housing legislation to support landlords in meeting their responsibilities and taking firm action where needed. Your work will include preparing and issuing legal notices managing enforcement activity and presenting evidence in formal settings.
Collaboration is at the heart of what we do. Youll work closely with local residents landlords partner organisations and teams across the council to promote safe well managed housing. Youll also help East Suffolk stay ahead of evolving legislation including taking ownership of implementing the new powers introduced through the Renters Rights Act 2025.

What you will need:
As a senior member of the service you will provide expert guidance and help shape best practice by developing protocols sharing knowledge and supporting the training and development of colleagues. Youll also take on management responsibility for a small team of enforcement and compliance officers helping them grow and ensuring cases progress effectively.
You will have a degree in Environmental Health (or equivalent) and at least five years of experience delivering advanced enforcement work within a local authority setting. You will have undertaken the HHSRS Practitioners course and be current and competent in PACE RIPA CPIA and the National File Standard.
