SQL Database Administrator

A reputable and long-established organisation is recruiting on behalf of their client for an experienced SQL Database Administrator to join their dynamic IT team. This role is suited to a technically strong professional who thrives in an operational environment ensuring database performance security and reliability across production and disaster recovery systems. The successful candidate will play a key role in optimising SQL environments while contributing to strategic infrastructure planning and continuous improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities:

• Perform daily SQL maintenance to ensure high availability optimal performance and sufficient capacity
• Manage database security including user access permissions and compliance
• Develop test and maintain backup and disaster recovery strategies
• Monitor and optimise database performance including replication and clustering environments
• Implement and maintain database structures ensuring data integrity and availability
• Support incident management troubleshooting and escalation of complex issues
• Collaborate with developers project managers and IT teams on new and existing systems
• Maintain accurate documentation reporting and database roadmaps
• Plan and execute upgrades patches and ongoing improvements to the SQL environment
• Ensure governance policies and standard operating procedures are implemented and maintained
• Contribute to budgeting processes including licensing maintenance and infrastructure planning

Requirements:

• Bachelors degree in Computer Science Information Systems or a related field
• 710 years experience working with Microsoft SQL Server and Microsoft Server environments
• Relevant Microsoft SQL certifications or equivalent industry-recognised credentials
• Strong expertise in high availability solutions including Always-On Availability Groups and Database Mirroring
• Experience managing multi-node SQL clusters and data warehouse environments
• Advanced knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server across multiple versions
• Solid understanding of database architecture performance tuning and infrastructure integration
• Experience with connectors such as REST SOAP ODBC JDBC and related protocols
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Proven ability to manage database security risk and compliance
• Knowledge of XML will be advantageous
