Job Summary
Overview
We are seeking a highly organized and clinically skilled Part-Time Staff Pharmacist to support multi-state correctional pharmacy operations. This role is responsible for medication order verification clinical oversight regulatory compliance and operational workflow management across prison and jail facilities. The pharmacist will function both independently and collaboratively with the pharmacy team to ensure continuity of care accuracy and patient safety across all assigned sites.

Schedule:
7 days on / 7 days off (Wednesday through Tuesday)
Weekday hours: 12:00 PM 11:00 PM
Weekend hours: 2:30 PM 11:00 PM
Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive drug profile reviews for multiple correctional facilities
- Review and verify medication orders within the electronic health record and pharmacy dispensing software
- Process and review employee prescriptions within designated verification workflows
- Provide clinical consultation to healthcare providers regarding medication therapy management
- Perform Non-Formulary (NF) medication reviews across all assigned facilities ensuring appropriate clinical justification and compliance
- Complete final medication verification checks to ensure accuracy prior to dispensing
- Coordinate medication workflow separation between jail and prison populations to maintain operational efficiency and compliance
- Review and verify discharge medications to ensure continuity of care upon inmate release
- Maintain strict adherence to state and federal pharmacy regulations and correctional healthcare policies
- Perform additional pharmacy tasks as assigned to support patient care and medication management
Qualifications
- Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree from an accredited pharmacy school
- Active unrestricted pharmacist license in Alabama
- Minimum 2 years of pharmacist experience preferred with experience in long-term care correctional health institutional or hospital pharmacy strongly preferred
- Strong working knowledge of federal and state pharmacy regulations including controlled substance requirements
- Experience with electronic health records (EHR) and pharmacy dispensing systems
- Ability to perform high-volume order verification with strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Demonstrated clinical judgment and ability to assess complex medication regimens
- Experience with formulary management and non-formulary review preferred
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a multidisciplinary team
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple facility workflows simultaneously
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications particularly Excel and Outlook
- Commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA standards
