Job Summary

Salary/Position Classification

  • $72200 dependent on experience annual Exempt
  • 40 hours per week
  • This position will work onsite the Grand Forks ND campus.

Purpose of Position

In conjunction with the Simulation Center Director and staff this position will actively promote the Simulation Centers commitment to the use of educational technology and equipment to provide an optimal learning experience for all learners and users of the Simulation Center.

Duties & Responsibilities

Prepare realistic medical simulation environments that meet course objectives and enhance learning

  • Consult with the simulation center education coordinator regarding the detailed medical environment needed for each scenario.
  • Coordinate all aspects of simulation environments including preparation set-up props clothing clean-up etc.
  • Assist in the inventory and ordering of simulation supplies.
  • Maintain a safe environment during simulation activities.
  • Maintain cleanliness and neatness of the simulation center including storage areas.
  • Provide recommendations to the Simulation Center Medical Director and Operations Director regarding future purchase and acquisition of additional medical simulation equipment.

Manages and maintains the inventory and repair of simulation medical equipment and task trainers

  • Collaborate with the Operations Director on all requests for the use of simulation equipment and task trainers from the SMHS faculty staff and students.
  • Work with the Operations Director and Administrative Coordinator to purchase replacement medical supplies and equipment.
  • Provide orientation and instruction on the use and care of all medical equipment and task trainers as needed so SMHS personnel including faculty staff and students.
  • Perform needed repairs on-site for non-working or damaged medical equipment and task trainers.
  • Collaborate with the Simulation Education and SIM-ND Coordinators for the completion of any necessary off-site repairs.
  • Prepare all appropriate task trainers for scheduled teaching labs.
  • Assure that all equipment is properly cleaned dried and stored after each simulation or teaching event.
  • Propose and create cost-saving solutions to repair and/or replace needed medical equipment.
  • Create special-use medical equipment and task trainers to fulfill specialized simulation requests.

Provide medical expertise to staff students and standardized patients (SPs) during live simulation event

  • Collaborate with the Simulation Technical Specialist to provide instruction and orientation to the simulation center team SMHS faculty and learners in the use and care of simulators and medical equipment.
  • Serve as a control operator during simulation events.
  • Prevent damage to and misuse of simulators and medical equipment during simulations by observation and timely intervention.
  • Provide additional medical information to all control room staff to enhance the reality of their performances during simulation.

Teach/Instruct education courses

  • Assist in teaching multidisciplinary medical simulation education courses.

Required Competencies

  • Working knowledge of computers and medical equipment.
  • Demonstrated skills of organization and efficiency.
  • Excellent interpersonal oral and written communication skills.
  • Detail-orientated and highly organized.
  • Ability to set priorities and work independently utilizing critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Simulation Center users including but not limited to staff learners vendors and external healthcare agencies.
  • Working knowledge of and proficiency in computers.
  • Must be able to travel locally statewide or nationally

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in biology nursing paramedicine physician assistant studies health or medical science or an Associates degree and 3 years of related experience.
  • 3 years of experience in a patient-centered healthcare field.
  • Experience with the tools used in making minor electronic and/or mechanical repairs e.g. soldering gun/iron wire strippers and multi-meters.
  • Must be available to work occasional evenings and weekends.
  • Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Laerdal Gaumard Harvey and other simulation systems and equipment.
  • Experience with advanced audio/visual recording and production systems.
  • Experience in moulage as it pertains to simulation education.
  • Training and experience in critical patient settings.
  • Experience in simulation learning environments for health professionals.
