Description

Sets up and performs routine and established lab procedures in support of lab goals grant commitments i.e. assays cell/tissue culture animal studies etc. Monitors results reports unusual outcomes and suggests modifications. Collects enters and summarizes data. Assists in the maintenance of lab equipment and supplies. Performs basic statistical data analysis; prepares tables/charts/graphs and assists in organizing data. Presents at research laboratory meetings and contributes to writing of manuscripts. Works under supervision and may perform some assignments independently as discussed and approved by Principal Investigator.

This vacancy is not eligible for sponsorship/ we will not sponsor or transfer visas for this position. Also Mayo Clinic DOES NOT participate in the F-1 STEM OPT extension program.

About the Lab

The Lomberk Laboratory investigates how epigenomic regulators including chromatin-modifying enzymes and remodeling complexes control gene expression programs downstream of oncogenic signaling shape DNA damage responses and drive disease progression in cancers such as pancreatic cancer. Our work spans mechanistic discovery to translational impact using cell-based assays patient-derived model systems and mouse models to identify vulnerabilities that can be targeted therapeutically.

Purpose

Under general direction from laboratory leadership the Research Technician will perform optimize and implement a variety of laboratory techniques and experiments to support the generation of high-quality data in a cellular and molecular biology research setting. The individual will analyze summarize and present data to a team of scientists and contribute to discussions guiding next steps in research projects.

Responsibilities May Include:

  • Perform protein-based assays including immunoblotting co-immunoprecipitation and chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP) to interrogate epigenomic and signaling pathways
  • Execute biochemical approaches to characterize protein-protein interactions and structure-function relationships of epigenomic regulators
  • Maintain mammalian cell lines and execute functional cell-based assays
  • Perform pharmacological assays to assess cellular responses to targeted therapies epigenetic modulators and their combinations
  • Perform immunofluorescence microscopy and imaging-based assays to assess DNA damage responses chromatin organization and nuclear architecture
  • Perform standard molecular biology techniques in support of ongoing projects
  • Assist with laboratory mouse work including colony maintenance genotyping and support of experimental studies
  • Execute established protocols and assist in optimizing and scaling experimental procedures as needed
  • Maintain accurate and organized records of experimental procedures and results
  • Support day-to-day laboratory operations including reagent and media preparation supply monitoring inventory management and ordering
  • Participate in laboratory meetings and contribute to the evaluation and interpretation of experimental data
  • Assist in preparation of figures methods and other materials for manuscripts and presentations

We Are Looking for a Candidate Who:

  • Has a background in biology biochemistry or a related field
  • Has experience with or familiarity in cell culture protein assays or other core molecular biology techniques
  • Demonstrates strong attention to detail organization and reliability in experimental work
  • Is comfortable assisting with mouse work and general laboratory responsibilities
  • Possesses strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Is motivated collegial and able to work effectively in a team-oriented environment
  • Is eager to learn and grow in a research setting

Qualifications

Requires bachelors degree in biology chemistry other relevant science or an associates degree with 6 years of relevant laboratory experience. Must exhibit a solid understanding of lab techniques equipment and safety. Must have the ability to organize and carry out laboratory techniques independently and in a team setting. Experience with basic data analysis is required. This position requires demonstrated writing skills.
