Job Summary
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelors degree in chemistry biology physics or related field and two years of related experience.
A valid Georgia drivers license is required.
Preferred Hiring Requirements:
Masters degree in chemistry biology physics or a related field.
Professional certifications: Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) Certified Safety Professional (CSP).
40-hour HAZWOPER and 8-hour DOT Hazmat training.
Training or the ability to complete training in HAZWOPER (40 hours) and 8-hour DOT HAZMAT within the first 6 months of hire.
Knowledge of RCRA HSWA TSCA CAA DOT OSHA and HAZCOM regulations.
Professional certification (e.g. CHMM CIH CSP) preferred.
Knowledge of word processing spreadsheet and database software.
Ability to respond to incidents and emergencies involving hazardous materials using proper personal protective equipment (PPE).

HERE IS WHAT YOU WILL DO
The essential duties and responsibilities of the Chemical Safety Specialist Senior are the following:
Performs hazardous materials management duties. Ensures the proper labeling storage shipment disposal and record keeping of regulated wastes.
Supports the chemical inventory management system; uploads troubleshooting reconciliation CAD clearance etc.
Performs routine inspections of laboratories satellite accumulation areas and waste buildings to ensure that proper safety procedures are being followed and compliance with regulatory requirements is maintained.
Develops and implements chemical safety hazardous waste and laboratory safety training and DEA compliance programs.
Assists laboratories in the chemical segregation according to compatible groupings; maintains a chemical inventory of free chemicals for redistribution; implements the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) RCRA-mandated hazardous waste reduction.
Fulfills the duties of emergency response to chemical and laboratory incidents under the Georgia State University (GSU) Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) Contingency Plan.
Responds to regulatory and safety inquiries incidents emergencies and site clean-ups.
Coordinates the hazardous waste disposal with contractors and orders supplies from vendors.
Prepares monthly generator and activity reports.
