Job Summary
Overview
The primary purpose of the Observation Unit Technician position is to provide direct patient care. Performs in a technical capacity to provide support to the professional staff in the evaluation and treatment of patients and contributes to the overall orderliness and cleanliness of the unit under the direction and supervision of a registered nurse. Exercises competency in all procedures within the scope of practice.

To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below must be representative of the knowledge skills minimum education training licensure experience and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. High School Diploma or GED equivalent required. Ability to read write speak understand and communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of the position required. Certification in phlebotomy required or successful completion of a Medical Assisting program which includes phlebotomy training required. EKG certification preferred and candidates without EKG must successfully complete training during new hire orientation at UH. One (1) year of acute care experience is preferred. BLS (CPR) required. Must have demonstrated proficiency in taking temperatures pulses blood pressures and other simple procedures as indicated. Possesses ability to work as a team member in a fast-paced environment.
