Job Summary
Overview
We are seeking a Process Modeling Engineer to develop and apply advanced modeling techniques to improve manufacturing processes and product performance. This role focuses on building analytical and numerical models to better understand material behavior optimize process conditions and reduce production costs.
The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in solid mechanics and numerical modeling along with the ability to collaborate across cross-functional teams in a technical research-driven environment.
Work Environment
- 100% onsite in a technical or manufacturing facility
- Collaboration with globally distributed teams including engineering research and commercial partners
- Opportunity for limited travel (up to 10%)
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and apply analytical and numerical models to improve process performance and product quality
- Use solid mechanics principles to evaluate and predict:
- Stress and deformation
- Thermal effects and residual stress
- Material behavior under varying process conditions
- Build and simulate models for process cycles including heating and cooling scenarios
- Analyze and optimize contact fixturing and handling conditions to reduce variability and risk
- Evaluate material and coating performance including stress and potential failure mechanisms
- Conduct data analysis and validate models through experimental methods
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support product development and problem-solving
- Prepare technical documentation including reports presentations and recommendations
Qualifications
- Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering Civil Engineering or related field with 4 years of experience OR
- PhD in Mechanical Engineering Civil Engineering or related field
Required Skills
- Strong foundation in solid mechanics and material behavior
- Experience with finite element analysis (FEA) tools (e.g. Abaqus Ansys or similar)
- Ability to translate complex problems into mathematical and computational models
- Strong programming and analytical skills to support modeling and simulations
- Experience designing experiments and validating model results
- Strong problem-solving and critical thinking abilities
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with open-source FEA tools
- Knowledge of thin film or coating mechanics
- Experience with process or product engineering environments
- Familiarity with materials testing techniques
- Experience working with diverse materials such as polymers or similar systems
