Medical Director, India
Job Summary
AbbVie is seeking a dynamic visionary Medical Director to join our team and help drive the next generation of life-changing therapies. As a member of the India Leadership Team this pivotal role is a high profile strategic position responsibile for leading and building the medical organisation and developing the scientific and medical strategy that supports the continued success of AbbVie in India. You will lead with integrity inspire cross-functional collaboration and champion patient-centered solutions that reflect AbbVies commitment to making a remarkable impact on peoples lives.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Strategic Planning for the affiliate medical department ensuring that affiliate medical staff contribute valuable strategic input to commercial plans; collaborate and partner with local business partners to ensure that medical activities are aligned with local business-related strategic plans as well as those of Area and Global Medical Affairs.
- Responsible for the provision of specialist medical/scientific strategic input and operational support of core activities such as local clinical research HCP/Customer interactions generation and communication of clinical and scientific data educational initiatives and patient safety.
- Establish medical and scientific information service for AbbVie products and products in development and ensure that medical information is of high quality and communicated in an accurate balanced timely and compliant way.
- Provide medical support for and help develop and maintain professional and credible relationships with external experts and academic centers and identify appropriately qualified external local experts who would wish to engage in collaborative efforts such as potential research collaborations with AbbVie; ensure a high level of scientific integrity in these collaborative efforts.
- Be a strategic collaborator in and contributor to the affiliate FutureFit and Brand Teams and ensure medical alignment with local objectives where possible.
- Act as the primary contact for medical governance requirements within the affiliate. Be accountable for understanding compliance requirements risk identification and assessment mitigation planning as well as implementation and monitoring of appropriate internal controls.
- Serve as the companys key medical spokesperson and primary medical representative with governmental agencies professional associations special interest groups and the healthcare community at large.
- Set and execute Medical Affairs strategies for the affiliate in consultation with the Regional Medical Director to ensure alignment with region and global strategic plans and provide strategic input to the affiliates commercial plans.
- Development of local clinical research plans. Conduct of local research activities in a scientific efficient and compliant way with due regard to applicable policies processes and procedures and national regulations and alignment with areas of strategic research interest for relevant products/therapeutic areas.
- Ensure that an effective Pharmacovigilance system operates within the affiliate and that reporting requirements to competent authorities for adverse events and other safety related documents are adhered to. Proactively anticipate possible safety signals and communicate appropriately according to standard procedures.
- Ensure that the affiliate operates an effective promotional material review & approval process and act as final medical signatory (may be delegated) for all promotional and scientific materials / activities within the affiliate. Act as final medical signatory (may be delegated) on all other relevant documents such as label changes ensuring compatibility of materials with the local label.
- Ensure that local medical affairs implementation plans are executed efficiently and that resourcing skills and capabilities are appropriate to meet needs.
- Provide leadership line management and development for the affiliate medical department staff.
- Ensure adherence to company standards policies and procedures: Accountable for enhancing affiliate medical personnel understanding of compliance requirements risk identification and assessment mitigation planning as well as implementation and monitoring of appropriate internal controls.
- Operate as a scientific interface and resource to HCPs/Customer(s) Health Care Institutions External Experts and professional associations regarding AbbVie Products or Products in Development.
- Plan and manage budget and headcount resources for the affiliate medical department.
Qualifications :
- Doctor of Medicine degree
- Minimum of 15 years total medical research and clinical work experience or practice
- Minimum 8 years broad pharmaceutical or biopharmaceutical industry experience
- Exceptional Leadership and Team management experience preferably of medical affairs teams
- Relevant therapeutic area knowledge experience desirable
