This is a permanent position at a 75-hour biweekly position.

Reporting to the Director Public Safety and Investigations (PSI) the Integrated Restorative Justice Practitioner is responsible for managing and facilitating restorative justice conferencing processes from referral through to resolution. This position works collaboratively with clients families Elders victims community representatives First Nations governments non-government organizations RCMP Crown and Yukon and federal government partners.

The goal of these relationships is to support traumainformed culturally responsive and communitybased justice approaches that promote accountability healing and community safety. The position researches develops implements and evaluates restorative justice standards policies and practices and delivers training mentoring and capacitybuilding support to communities interested in developing or strengthening community justice responses.

The Integrated Restorative Justice Practitioner works independently manages complex and sensitive cases supports community-based justice initiatives and contributes to policy development reporting and intergovernmental collaboration related to restorative justice in Yukon.

Essential Qualifications

  • Postsecondary education in a justicerelated social science or community development field (such as social work criminology Indigenous studies psychology or a related discipline)
  • Experience working within the criminal justice system and/or communitybased justice or restorative justice programs as an asset.
  • Experience facilitating restorative justice processes conferences circles or group-based conflict resolution.
  • Experience conducting client assessments screening referrals and applying traumainformed and clientcentred approaches.
  • Experience working collaboratively with First Nations governments Indigenous organizations community justice groups and nongovernment organizations.
  • Experience developing and delivering training presentations or workshops to diverse audiences.

Candidates who have education training and/or significant experience equivalent to the essential qualifications listed above may be equally considered.

Desired Knowledge Skills and Suitability

Candidates should have and may be assessed on:

  • Knowledge of restorative justice principles practices and alternative measures under the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Knowledge of traumainformed culturally responsive and communitybased justice approaches
  • Strong facilitation negotiation and conflictresolution skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work respectfully and effectively in politically and culturally sensitive environments
  • Strong organizational timemanagement and analytical skills
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Willingness and ability to travel to Yukon communities and work in challenging environments

Conditions of employment:

  • Yukon Class 5 Drivers License
  • Security clearance including Vulnerable sector clearance.

Job Requirements:

  • Restorative community conferences can include home visits as well as training of facilitators which can occur in community settings requiring the incumbent to travel 6 to 8 times per year (average of 3-5 days/trip).
  • This position required the incumbent to lift and move tables chairs and other similar furniture in the set up and takedown of venues for the facilitation of restorative community conferences and training purposes.
