Role Overview
We are currently looking for a Vessel Traffic and Services Officer (VTSO) to provide communication and information centred client services to the shipping industry to ensure the safe efficient and cost-effective movement of vessels for all ports serviced and owned by Flinders Ports by working with pilots ships masters shipping agents and towage operators and internal staff.
Located at Outer Harbor at our Marine Operations Centre the role operates on a rotational 12-hour shift basis working 2 days 2 nights and then 4 days off. This may vary during training.
Key Responsibilities
Ensure communication of changes to shipping schedules to all relevant parties and coordinate any resultant changes;
Operate the South Australia Radio Network to provide a maritime radio distress and safety service;
Ensure the surveillance and radio monitoring of all Adelaide VTS areas;
Deliver a timely and accurate administrative function of the Marine Operations Centre including maintaining systems files and logs and producing records reports and statistical data; and
Assist in the management of labour allocation through a labour allocation system.
About you
Your skills and experience will include;
Valid drivers licence;
Hold a VTS Operators C0103-1 qualification (desirable);
Previous experience in communication role with proficiency in Radio Telephony and use of VHF radio telephones and electronic tools and a Marine Radio Certificate;
Ability to work efficiently in interchanging teams and prioritise tasks under pressure whilst maintaining client focus;
Well-developed communication skills who interacts effectively with other team members clients and the general public; and
Restricted Master Class V Certificate of Competency and nautical ship and coastal navigation knowledge is desirable but not essential.
