Job Summary
Weakley County Schools is seeking qualified interested candidates to teach in our K-2 Behavior Modification classroom. This is a small setting that supports students as they learn appropriate behaviors conducive to learning. It requires patience and understanding a high level of structure and expectations and a willingness to think creatively and problem-solve.

Purpose of Job | The Behavior Classroom is a transition classroom for elementary students that is designed to provide support for students to adopt behaviors that will increase potential for academic performance. This classroom will be led by a teacher and assisted by 1-2 educational assistants to provide diversified strategies and activities designed for targeted students. | ||
Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities | Maintain order in the classroom and on school grounds/property. Create a consistent routined classroom Teach and model de-escalation and appropriate school and interpersonal behavior Assist in enforcing school rules Board policies and administrative regulations. Make parents aware of information about programs policies and resources that are available to students in the program. Work with students to provide support when they return to their home schools. Effectively support student acquisition of core curriculum and content standards. Assist staff in: defining and measuring behavior; understanding principles of reinforcement; teaching new behavior; implementing strategies for weakening behavior; and identifying antecedents. Work with individual teachers groups of teachers and/or the entire staff on crisis management and factors that can affect development and implementation of interventions. Engage parents in the behavior intervention plan process and empower parents by providing them with skills and techniques to support the positive behavior development of their child. Attend professional development opportunities to maintain high level of skill and knowledge of current research and practices. When possible maintain IEPs for special education students and act as case manager while students attend this classroom. | ||
Essential Functions | Maintain consistent predictable attendance and punctuality including participation in required meetings trainings and professional development Perform all duties with integrity professionalism accountability and in compliance with all school district state and federal laws/policies. Interact professionally and effectively with students parents/guardians coworkers administrators and members of the public. Maintain appropriate confidentiality of student personnel and district information. Follow all safety procedures and report hazards incidents or unsafe conditions in a timely manner. Use district equipment technology and resources appropriately and in support of assigned duties. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors or administrators. Model nondiscriminatory practices in all activities. | ||
Education Skills and Abilities | The ideal candidate will possess dual certification in both elementary education and special education. Experience in both general education and special education settings preferred. Must have strong organizational skills and classroom management philosophy and skill. Knowledge of developing and implementing behavior intervention plans is preferred. |
