Summary of Job Duties:
The Research Agronomy program is searching for an individual to assume a 12-month benefits eligibleposition located at the newly constructed Northeast Rice Research and Extension Center (NERREC).
This position is responsible for collecting and organizing agronomic data to assess the value of different
production practices for Arkansas farms. This includes but is not limited to:
alternative rice irrigation methods including furrow-irrigated rice (FIR) and alternate wetting and
drying (AWD) rice
soybean agronomic research
collaboration with extension specialists and other researchers both internal and external
A major focus of this position will be assisting with research trials both on-station and on-farm. The on farm
trials will work with producers to implement new technologies on their farm. Duties will include but
are not limited to assisting with equipment installation data collection and planting and management of
field trials which includes spraying irrigating weeding and harvesting. The candidate will be
responsible for collaborating with University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture (UADA) faculty
and staff outside researchers and industry cooperators to help build a next-level research program that is highly regarded by our clientele. Our team will pay extra attention to detail and provide high quality and unbiased results to all clientele. The candidate will also be responsible for assisting with post-harvest
sample processing including rice and soybean harvest indices.
The candidate will operate in conjunction with the Program Associate and other personnel in the
planning and execution of programs. Integrity and personal accountability are key to success in this role.
Responsibility:
40% Logistical support oversee plot and field work troubleshooting
50% Data collection field data harvest post-harvest data collection
10% Lab support maintain a clean and work-conducive lab environment
Qualifications:
Required: HS diploma or equivalent plus one year of farming related experience.
Preferred: Experience with row crop agriculture and/or field research specifically in Arkansas rice production
Experience with equipment maintenance
Knowledge Skills and Abilities: Candidate must have a valid drivers license possess excellent communication skills and be able to lift a 50-pound bag of seed.
