Position Title: Curriculum Director
Central Administration
Position Summary: Evaluate and provide leadership for the overall instructional program of the district. Be responsible for the effective and efficient operation of curriculum and instruction which includes curriculum staff development and local assessments.
Preferred but not required:
Education: Masters degree from an accredited college or university
Experience: Three years of experience as a classroom teacher
Experience in instructional leadership roles preferred
Special Knowledge and Skills:
Knowledge of curriculum and instruction
Knowledge of state assessment requirements
Ability to evaluate instructional programs and teaching effectiveness
Ability to lead and support administrators with instructional coaching sessions
Ability to manage budget and personnel
Ability to implement policy and procedures
Ability to interpret data
Strong communication public relations and interpersonal skills
Must have experience in teaching and be considered an exceptional teacher.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Instructional and Program Management
Direct instructional and curriculum services to meet students needs.
Ensure vertical and horizontal alignment of curriculum.
Guide the process of instructional strategy alignment across the district.
Apply research and data to improve the content sequence and overall outcomes of the teaching-learning process.
Work with appropriate staff to develop maintain and revise curriculum documents based on systematic review and analysis.
Involve instructional staff in evaluating and selecting instructional materials to meet student learning needs.
Model best instructional practices for teachers.
Ensure the use of technology in the teaching-learning process.
Plan the necessary time resources and materials to support accomplishment of education goals.
Ensure that district goals and objectives are developed using collaborative processes and problem-solving techniques when appropriate.
Lead new educational project implementations (such as STEAM Project and Service Learning).
Co-chair the district-level decision-making process to establish and review the districts goals and objectives and major classroom instructional programs of the district.
Actively support the efforts of others to achieve district goals and objectives and campus performance objectives. (TAPR)
Obtain and use evaluative findings (including student achievement data) to examine major curriculum resources and instructional programs.
Lead professional development sessions over targeted areas and also secure consultants specialists and other community resources to assist principals and instructional staff in attaining objectives.
Develop a multi-layered district-wide plan that will promote instructional growth for support staff.
Provide effective staff development activities that incorporate the mission of the district program evaluation outcomes and input from teachers and others.
Coordinate the review development and revision of all subject area programs and related curriculum documents and materials including curriculum guides and teaching plans.
Work cooperatively with campus principals in developing and implementing professional learning communities and department collaborations.
Collaborate with the principals to ensure appropriate instructional adjustments are made in a timely manner after Campus Performance Review sessions.
Serve as the lead instructional support team member and oversee designated staff members.
Lead campuses in the development and implementation of strategies that will enhance the achievement and social development of students with special needs including but not limited to special education self-assessment.
Coordinate the ordering and use of departmental instructional aids and materials.
Maintain a staff library of publications supplementary materials and supplies.
Coordinate the adoption of curriculum materials and ensure professional development regarding instructional materials occurs.
Assist in the preparation of the budget and administration of the budget for supplies and equipment.
Work collaboratively with principals in interpreting testing data to improve student achievement.
Collaborate with directors and principals regarding instructional planning on bilingual education ESL gifted and talented program dyslexia and summer learning.
Establish membership in the Region VII Curriculum and Directors organization.
Additional duties assigned by the superintendent.
Demonstrate the ability to collaborate with and work well with others.
