Job Summary:
Community Healthcaring Kitchener- Waterloo is excited to offer a Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) position for a Community Service Worker Summer Student to join our Health & Wellness team for the summer season. This position offers an excellent opportunity for a student interested in pursuing a career in community services. You will work alongside experienced professionals providing support to individuals and families within the community assisting with program coordination and contributing to the overall well-being of those in need.
As a Community Service Worker Student you will gain hands-on experience in program development for the community all while making a meaningful impact on your local community. Community Healthcaring Kitchener-Waterloo is committed to offering a safe and supportive environment with strong supervision and mentorship for students.
Responsibilities:
- To research and create population-based information graphics to share with clients staff and community partners
- Assist Health and Wellness team by co facilitating various in person and community-based programs that focus on life-skill development capacity building volunteerism and social networking.
- Pick up program items and complete budget/expense forms
- Help with program recruitment registration set up and community displays.
- Support Health and Wellness team with program planning of quarterly calendars evaluation data entry and reports.
- Support Health and Wellness team at community events front desk and other duties.
- Help facilitate various socially prescribed health promotion and community development programs on site and in the community.
- Work from a Social Determinants of Health perspective to improve health outcomes for individual clients and/or for the development of community health and well-being and to reduce health inequities.
- Coordinate and facilitate community events.
- Act as an ambassador for the health centre discussing programs and services and promoting healthy lifestyles.
- Data entry as needed.
- Assist and support the Health Wellness Team and CHCKW as required.
- Other duties as may be assigned.
Eligibility Requirements:
To be eligible for the Canada Summer Jobs program candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Be between the ages of 15 and 30 at the start of the employment period.
- Be a Canadian citizen permanent resident or have refugee status in Canada.
- Enrolled in a post-secondary program (Social Work Community Services Psychology or a related field).
- Passion for helping others and making a positive impact on the community.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work with diverse populations.
- Organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks.
- Knowledge of community resources is an asset.
- Community programming experience considered an asset.
- Previous volunteer or work experience at community health centre is an asset but not required.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.
Additional Information:
- This is a Canada Summer Jobs funded position specifically for students looking to gain work experience during the summer months.
- The position is full-time for a duration of up to 16 weeks.
- The role will provide mentorship strong supervision plan & hands-on experience and the opportunity to enhance skills in the programming & community work.
