Associate Marine, Trade and Aviation

Penningtons Manches Cooper LLP is seeking an experienced Senior Lawyer to join its Marine Trade & Aviation practice in Singapore. This role offers the opportunity to work as part of an internationally recognised team advising a diverse client base across the shipping commodities and offshoresectors.

The successful candidate will play a key role in advising on highvalue complex matters with a strong international dimension while also contributing to client development and team growth.

Advise clients on a broad range of contentious and noncontentious marine and trade matters including:

• Shippingdisputes
• Trade and commodities disputes including trade finance
• Charterparty bill of lading and cargo claims
• Casualty collision and salvage matters
• Sanctions trade compliance and regulatory issues

Manage cases autonomously with responsibility for strategy client communication and delivery.

Work collaboratively with colleagues across the firms UK and international offices including crossborder matters.

Support and mentor junior lawyers within the team.

Contribute to business development including client relationship management pitching thought leadership and industry engagement.

Play an active role in developing the firms profile in the Singapore and wider market.

• Qualified lawyer (Singapore-qualified England & Wales or equivalent common law jurisdiction).
• Significant postqualification experience in marine and trade law.
• Strong experience handling complex disputes and/or contentious advisory work in these sectors.
• Proven ability to manage files independently and advise sophisticated clients.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Commercially minded proactive and clientfocused approach.

Desirable Attributes

• Experience gained at a wellregarded international or regional law firm.
• Existing client relationships or demonstrable business development capability.
• Familiarity with litigation and international arbitration.
• Interest in contributing to the strategic growth of the practice in Asia.
