Job Summary

The Plant Head is the single point of ownership for the entire cold rolling complex - from pickling to
a greenfield expansion phase this role must simultaneously commission new lines build the
operating team establish systems and SOPs drive cost discipline and ensure on-time quality delivery to
OEM and Tier-1 customers. Without a capable Plant Head every other HOD appointment underperforms.
JOB PURPOSE

To lead the end-to-end operations of the CRCA cold rolling complex - encompassing pickling cold rolling
batch annealing skin pass slitting CTL quality maintenance planning and dispatch - with full P&L
accountability. The Plant Head is expected to build a disciplined system-driven manufacturing culture;
deliver production targets with optimal cost quality and delivery performance; ramp up capacity utilisation
during the expansion phase; and develop a leadership pipeline across all departments. This is the most
senior operational role at the plant and carries direct accountability for customer satisfaction regulatory
compliance safety and profitability.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Own the plant P&L: monitor conversion cost per tonne energy cost yield manpower productivity
and overheads against monthly budgets.
Drive daily production reviews - ensure rolling plan adherence annealing cycle discipline skin pass
scheduling and dispatch targets are met shift by shift.
Lead the ramp-up of the Khopoli cold rolling complex: commission new lines stabilise processes
achieve rated capacity within defined timelines.
Establish and enforce SOPs across all process lines - pickling parameters rolling reduction
schedules annealing recipes skin pass elongation targets slitting/CTL tolerances.
Chair weekly management reviews covering production quality maintenance dispatch safety and
cost - with data-driven MIS and action tracking.
Own customer service reliability: ensure OTIF delivery maintain coil traceability from RM receipt to
FG dispatch and personally intervene on critical customer escalations.
Set maintenance discipline standards: approve shutdown plans monitor breakdown trends enforce
PM/PdM schedules and ensure MTBF improvement quarter on quarter.
Drive quality culture: hold HOD QA/QC accountable for rejection rates customer complaints and
first-pass approval; ensure metallurgical testing rigour.
Lead cost reduction projects: energy optimisation yield improvement non-prime reduction spare
consumption rationalisation manpower deployment efficiency.
Ensure statutory and regulatory compliance: factory licence pollution control electrical inspections
boiler compliance labour laws and safety audits.
Build the plant team: recruit develop and retain HODs and supervisory staff; conduct structured
performance appraisals using KRA/KPI frameworks.
Enforce safety and housekeeping discipline: zero tolerance for unsafe acts regular safety audits
PPE compliance fire prevention and emergency preparedness.

Coordinate with commercial and procurement teams on RM specifications delivery schedules
vendor quality issues and customer requirement changes.
Own the ERP discipline at plant level: ensure accurate data entry real-time production logging
inventory accuracy and timely MIS generation.
Represent the plant in customer audits regulatory inspections and management reviews with the
Board / Director.
Plan and execute annual plant shutdown for major maintenance ensuring minimal production
disruption and on-time restart.

MUST-HAVE CANDIDATE PROFILE

Experience Required: 20 25 years in steel / flat products manufacturing with at least 5 years heading an
entire plant or as Deputy Plant Head with full operational scope.
Mandatory Industry Exposure: Mandatory: Cold rolled steel (CRCA/CRCM) flat steel processing or
integrated steel plant cold rolling division. Exposure to pickling rolling annealing finishing is essential.
Preferred Plant Types: Plants with multiple process lines (pickling rolling annealing finishing) batch or
continuous operationTPA capacity range preferred.
Education: B.E./ in Mechanical or Metallurgical Engineering. MBA (Operations) is a plus but not
mandatory.
Technical Skills: Deep understanding of cold rolling metallurgy reduction schedules annealing curves
surface finish parameters thickness tolerances. Must understand mill hydraulics roll management and
process interlinkages.
ERP / MIS Expectations: Must have used ERP (SAP/custom) for production planning inventory and
reporting. Should be comfortable with daily MIS dashboards and data-driven reviews.
Leadership Capability: Demonstrated ability to build teams from scratch manage 100 person plants
handle union/contract labour dynamics and drive accountability through systems rather than
micromanagement.
Communication: Fluent in English for customer interactions and reporting. Hindi/Marathi for shopfloor
communication. Must be able to present to Board level.
