Role Summary
Provide L2/L3 production support and deliver enhancements for mission-critical applications running on IBM z/VSE in a 24x7 operations environment. Lead P1/P2 incident bridges restore service quickly drive high-quality RCA and implement preventive fixes that reduce repeat outages and protect shipping/plant cutoffs. Support connectivity and interfaces (VSEn/VSE Navigator/TCP-IP file transfers partner integrations) critical to supply chain execution.
Key Responsibilities
Own end-to-end production support: incident triage service requests problem management and resolution within SLAs. Lead P1/P2 bridges: rapid triage clear executive-ready updates action/owner tracking and post-incident follow-through. Perform RCA (5-Whys/fault tree as appropriate) document corrective actions and execute preventive improvements (monitoring automation runbooks). Deliver enhancements: requirements clarification impact analysis design build unit/system testing release and hypercare. Manage change/release activities: implementation & backout plans approvals deployment execution and post-deploy verification. Support batch/online stability aligned to operational timelines (batch windows cutoffs reconciliations interface replays). Coordinate across application infrastructure network security and vendor teams; ensure audit-ready documentation and evidence.
Required Skills (z/VSE / Mainframe)
Strong hands-on IBM z/VSE production support (L2/L3). VSE JCL: job setup dependency handling reruns/restarts checkpoint/restart patterns. VSE/POWER: spool/queue/output management and troubleshooting. Batch operations: abend analysis recovery steps controlled data fixes/reprocessing. Online support: CICS on z/VSE (region/transaction troubleshooting and recovery). Data/files: VSAM concepts (KSDS/ESDS/RRDS) space/extend issues integrity/reconciliation troubleshooting. VSEn / VSE Navigator (as used): operational visibility monitoring and administration. Connectivity/interfaces: TCP/IP troubleshooting FTP/SFTP flows file-based integrations rerun/replay controls and reconciliation. ITIL discipline: incident/problem/change management and strong RCA writing.
Development / Enhancement Skills (Required or Strongly Preferred)
COBOL (or equivalent) for debugging minor-to-medium enhancements and production fixes. Strong testing and release support in controlled environments (segregation of duties approvals evidence).
