Job Summary

Position Title: Child Nutrition Program Coordinator

Department: Child Nutrition Program

Reports To: Chief Financial Officer

FLSA Status: Exempt

SUMMARY:

Coordinates operations of the school food service main office and serves as District liaison in food service management company (FSMC) interactions. Ensures the District including through the FSMC complies with District policies and procedures and Federal and State regulations and guidelines.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensures compliance with district policies and procedures and Federal and State regulations and guidelines.
  • Serves as District liaison to the FSMC.
  • Oversees operations of the school food service main office including supervision and evaluation of staff.
  • Conducts regular performance accountability and other reviews as required by the Federal and State regulations and guidelines as well as on-site reviews related to agreements; free & reduced meal lunch applications appeals certifications eligibility and approvals; reimbursement claims and the Districts verifications summary report; menu development and nutrition compliance.
  • Coordinates resolution of program reviews and audit findings. Approves corrective actions developed in collaboration with the FSMC when appropriate and submits to the SC Department of Education (SCDE).
  • Documents the outcomes of reviews with the District and SCDE.
  • Reviews and records the performance of the FSMC with respect to: efficiency and effectiveness of the FSMCs performance of tasks specified in the contract; food quality and offerings; the general quality of professional personnel utilized in the performance of the contract; conformance of the FSMC with the cost provisions of the contract and commitments made therein.
  • Monitors the FSMC contract to ensure terms & conditions are met related to: procurement of all foods according to minimum specifications; distribution of duties as agreed upon in the cost responsibility detail form; alignment with the Districts personnel policies & procedures; accruals of income to the non-profit Child Nutrition program and its return to the appropriate Child Nutrition account; adherence to all regulatory provisions outlined in the contract; and proper maintenance of all District equipment to ensure items are not subject to neglect by the FSMC.
  • Regularly reports to and collaborates with the Chief Financial Officer and/or designee(s) regarding financial operations of the school food service program and results from the FSMC. Ensures accurate accounting records.
  • Performs other duties as may be assigned by the Chief Financial Officer.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Bachelors Degree with academic major in food & nutrition food service management dietetics family & consumer sciences nutritional education culinary arts business or a related field and at least three years successful work experience supervising/managing Child Nutrition Programs or equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge skills and abilities to perform job. Experience working collaboratively with a food service management company is strongly preferred. Child Nutrition Credential Specialist (CNS) preferred.

CERTIFICATES LICENSES REGISTRATIONS:

Certified in School Nutrition Certified in ServSafe and/or HACCP. Must maintain CEUs as prescribed by USDA. Must possess a valid drivers license with an acceptable driving record.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supervises the activities of field supervisors and school food service main office staff. Responsibilities include interviewing hiring and training employees; planning assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organizations policies and applicable laws.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add subtract multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers common fractions and decimals. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement volume and distance.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to interpret and carry out instructions furnished in written oral diagram or schedule form. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

Ability to effectively train and supervise the work of subordinate employees. Ability to maintain and interpret records and reports. Ability to provide training through explanation demonstration and supervised practice.

Ability to plan organize and coordinate food service activities while serving as liaison between the District and FSMC. Ability to interact in an effective manner with co-workers students teachers and the general public. Ability to interpret and apply all pertinent food service regulations and standards. Ability to create electronic reports and presentations use the internet efficiently communicate electronically via e-mail and manage electronic data and files in an organized manner.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:

Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

Ability to operate a personal computer and related software. Ability to work alone. Ability to develop effective working relationships with students and the school community. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.

Thorough knowledge of Child Nutrition standards and regulations. Knowledge of the daily and monthly planning required for completion of job duties. Knowledge of established standards of productivity and quality of work to be maintained by in school food service operations. Strong knowledge of word processing e-mail spreadsheets electronic file management the internet and reporting and presentation software. Ability to operate general office equipment such as a calculator and copier.

Knowledge of the reports and records which must be prepared processed and maintained to meet requirements. Strong leadership skills; knowledge of principles of organization planning and personnel supervision.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to sit stand walk talk listen and/or reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision. Duties of the job includes general office duties and occasional use of standard cafeteria/food service equipment and supplies. Occasionally the employee will work under a degree of stress as related to duties that require constant attention to details and meeting tight deadlines. Some travel may be required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Working conditions will consist of mostly office work but could include school cafeteria environments. The noise level in this environment is quiet to loud depending upon the activity in the particular part of the day.

12 months

Level 124 Pay Scale

The terms of employment detailed in this job description are based on full time employment during the school year. Conditions of employment adjusted for part time employees or individuals who are hired for less than an entire school year.

EVALUATION:

Performance of this job evaluated annually according to Board Policy.
