About our Studio Programs Department:

The VMFA Studio Programs offer a wide variety of studio art classes workshops and camps for all ages and skill levels taught by professional artists and teachers. Classes are offered year-round and taught in the Studio School Building for adults The Smurfit WestRock Art Education Center for kids and the Pauley Center for teens.


General Information:

We are currently seeking applications for organized and enthusiastic individuals to join our Studio Programs Department as a Youth & Family Studio Programs Assistant.

The Youth & Family Studio Programs Assistant position provides essential support for the management and facilitation of Youth and Family Studio Programs contributing to year-round educational offerings related to the museums collections and exhibitions for kids teens and families. This position assists with the development and coordination of select family studio programs and supports the facilitation and supervision of classes camps and workshops for kids and teen studio collaboration with the program coordinator the assistant helps maintain safe organized and well-equipped studio environments through oversight of supplies storage first aid resources and general program needs. Additional responsibilities include scheduling interns and volunteers assisting with task delegation and supervision supporting student exhibitions updating website content managing administrative tasks such as statistics and data collection and helping oversee daily program operations. The position also works collaboratively with colleagues to develop studio-based art content and activities for select education programs outreach initiatives and special exhibitions.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of a broad range of studio art disciplines materials and processes along with art history and effective teaching practices for children teen and family audiences.
  • Strong organizational administrative and problem-solving skills with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Proficiency in computer applications and technology used for communication scheduling web updates and program administration.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage effectively with youth of varying ages backgrounds and abilities as well as other staff interns and volunteers.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including weekends and evenings.

Additional Considerations:

  • Experience teaching and working with summer studio art camps.
  • Some experience supervising interns and volunteers as well as working with artists and art teachers.
