The WIC Nutrition Aide I will assist with the implementation of the nutrition services component of the local program under the supervision of the local WIC Program Nutritionist.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:
- Conducts nutrition assessment (certification and mid-certification) including diet and health assessment risk management food package tailoring nutrition education documentation and establishing health or nutrition goals with low risk WIC participants (3 to 5 year old children).
- Conducts and documents secondary nutrition education for low-risk child participants either individually or in group setting.
- Contacts health professionals for participant anthropometric data or obtains weight and height/length in the office. Enters data into the Statewide WIC Information System (SWIS); plots growth and prenatal weight gain data and orients participants to the program.
- Assists in the preparation of nutrition education materials (e.g. newsletters and pamphlets) visual aids (e.g. bulletin boards displays) and activities (e.g. classes)
- Provides program services including scheduling appointments updating demographic data responding to calls and performs other clerical responsibilities as needed.
- Attends and participates in all training and continuing education sessions offered by the State WIC Program.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- High school diploma
- Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing in English and Spanish.
- Ability to establish rapport with individuals and small groups.
- Successful completion of the departments paraprofessional training program within one year of appointment to the position.
Bristol Hospital Mandated Educational Requirements:
General orientation at time of hire. Fire/Safety/Infection Control annually. Other programs as mandated by Hospital.

Special Requirements:
Superior typing skills with a minimum of 50 wpm. Mathematics background helpful. Superior customer service skills personal computer literate in word processing. Ability to verbalize so the average person can comprehend. Ability to work well and interact with customers/clients of various ages.
Physical Requirements:
Moderate walking bending stooping. Physical and digital dexterity. Vision and hearing acuity corrected to normal. Occasional light lifting of office supplies and materials. Extended sitting possible.
Work Environment:
Normal office conditions with high volume of telephone typing and personal contact with varied levels of customers/clients. Extensive use of a personal computer and other office equipment. Some exposure to patients and family members.
Cognitive Requirements:
Excellent clerical skills superior written and oral communication skills literate in English. Superior organizational skills with ability to follow written and verbal directions with multiple steps. Ability to perform in a fast paced environment.
