QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Bachelor of Arts or Science Degree
2. Must hold a valid NATABOC certification and be state licensure eligible
3. Clinical experience in a variety of sports preferred
4. CPR instructor preferred
5. Willingness to participate as an ACI for the University of Iowa undergraduate athletic training education program
6. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the District may find appropriate and acceptable.

REPORTS TO: Athletic Director Building Principal Health Services Coordinator

JOB GOALS: The athletic trainer will plan supervise and implement components of an athletic training program for junior/ senior high school students in order to enhance student learning promote the overall efficiency of the school system and maximize the educational opportunities available to each child.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Conduct initial clinical evaluation of injuries and illnesses commonly sustained by participants in athletics
2. Provide appropriate first aid and emergency care according to accepted standards for acute injuries/illnesses resulting from participation in athletics.
3. Implement a comprehensive rehabilitation program under the direction of the Health Services Coordinator and consulting physician for injuries/illnesses sustained by participants in athletics.
4. Assist in implementing a program for prevention of injury.
5. Observe athletes for signs and symptoms of illnesses and initial referral when appropriate.
6. Perform Approved Clinical Instructor (ACI) training through the University of Iowa and provide supervision of assigned undergraduate athletic training students.
7. Communicate concerns regarding the health care of the athlete and the athletic training program to the Health Services Coordinator and Athletic Director.
8. Other duties as assigned

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Districts policy on Evaluation State Statute and any applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement.
