Job Summary

The Opportunity Walsall is a town defined by its heritage of leatherworking and industry now evolving into a hub for modern technology and education. We are seeking a Food Technology specialist who can ignite a passion for the culinary arts and food science in our students. This role involves teaching Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 focusing on developing practical mastery alongside a deep understanding of nutritional theory food provenance and the science of ingredients.


The Department

  • You will operate in professional-standard food technology suites designed for high-efficiency practical learning.

  • A full-time dedicated food technician manages all logistical aspects including ingredient stock safety audits and equipment upkeep.

  • The department utilizes a collaborative curriculum model providing teachers with shared digital resources and tested practical schemes of work.

  • We actively engage with local industry and healthy-eating initiatives to give students a broader perspective on the food sector.


Core Responsibilities

  1. Planning and delivering high-energy practical lessons that challenge students to master complex culinary skills and techniques.

  2. Teaching the theoretical foundations of food science including the functional properties of ingredients and the chemistry of cooking.

  3. Ensuring a safe and productive environment during practical sessions by upholding rigorous health and safety standards.

  4. Guiding Year 11 students through the GCSE Food Preparation and Nutrition specification focusing on both theory and NEA (Non-Examination Assessment) tasks.

  5. Championing the importance of sustainability ethics and food security within the modern curriculum.


The Successful Candidate We are looking for an educator who treats the classroom like a kitchen labwith precision creativity and energy. Requirements include

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a degree in Food Technology Nutrition or a relevant culinary field.

  • Proven ability to manage practical classrooms effectively while ensuring all students achieve their potential.

  • Up-to-date knowledge of current food safety regulations and GCSE examination requirements.

  • A desire to reflect the diverse cultural community of Walsall through inclusive and varied culinary exploration.
