Job Summary

The Opportunity Blackburn is a town with a vibrant multi-faith community making it one of the most rewarding places in the country to teach Religious Education. We are seeking an RE Teacher who can facilitate respectful high-level dialogue and critical thinking among our students. This role involves exploring world religions ethics and philosophy across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 helping pupils navigate the complexities of modern belief systems and moral dilemmas in a diverse society.


The Department

Core Responsibilities

  1. Planning and delivering lessons that cover a broad spectrum of religions and worldviews ensuring a balanced and inclusive approach.

  2. Leading debates on complex ethical issues such as medical ethics social justice and the philosophy of religion.

  3. Preparing students for GCSE Religious Studies focusing on rigorous analysis of scripture and contemporary practice.

  4. Encouraging students to develop empathy and religious literacy preparing them for life in a multicultural Britain.

  5. Managing a classroom environment where all studentsregardless of their own faith or lack thereoffeel valued and heard.


The Successful Candidate We are looking for an articulate and open-minded educator who is passionate about the role of religion in the 21st century. Requirements include

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a degree in Religious Studies Theology Philosophy or a related Humanities subject.

  • The ability to remain objective and facilitate balanced discussions on sensitive or controversial topics.

  • A deep understanding of the current GCSE specifications and the ability to drive high levels of student attainment.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a commitment to upholding the faith-based ethos of the Academy.
