JOB TITLE: Campus Academic Specialist

REPORTS TO: Principal

WAGE/HOUR STATUS: Exempt

PAY GRADE: AI 1


PRIMARY PURPOSE:

The Campus Academic Specialist (CAS) is accountable for supporting teachers by providing individualized feedback coaching and development to improve teacher performance and increase student achievement. The CAS will support Instructional Specialists support staff and the building principal in monitoring curriculum and staff development. The Campus Academic Specialist will be responsible for creating professional development plans and monitoring teacher/student progress.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • Bachelors degree from an accredited College or University
  • Five years job related experience
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate

Preferred:

  • Masters Degree in Curriculum and Instruction or Educational Leadership
  • Three years of administration and related experience
  • Two years of administrative evaluation or instructional coaching preferred

SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:

  • Knowledge of curriculum and effective instructional strategies and programs
  • Ability to work with teachers and support staff in the instructional setting
  • Strong organizational communication leadership and interpersonal skills
  • Certified to evaluate and develop professional development plans for teachers

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Observe instructional practice and provide a formative assessment of strengths and weaknesses and provide real-time feedback and access to relevant development opportunities.
  • Provide critical on the job coaching to teachers in support of their professional learning.
  • Work with teachers and principals to review performance data and learning plans and to identify teachers strengths and prioritize most pressing development needs to increase student achievement.
  • Help identify and connect teachers to appropriate professional learning opportunities to meet priority needs and monitor teachers efficacy in applying new skill and impact on student learning adjust approach as necessary to achieve goals for teacher improvement and student achievement.
  • Provide instructional feedback for the appraisal process.
  • Partner with principal to ensure focus is aligned to development priorities for individual teachers and across the campus.
  • Collaborate with Instructional Specialists within their team and across teams.
  • Tap into school based resources and provide professional learning within the Professional Learning Communities framework and lead group learning opportunities focused on increasing teacher effectiveness in a specific area.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
  • Coordinating summer academic programs
  • Cooperates with appropriate program directors.
  • Administers an appropriate record keeping system.
  • Maintains accurate records for teacher coaching feedback and progress.
  • Meets required record keeping format and timelines effectively.
  • Exemplifies professionalism in behavior and performance.
  • Cooperates with staff and administrators sharing work willingly.
  • Works with team leaders and principal to benefit from evaluation by using strengths and improving areas of needs.
  • Exemplifies professionalism and creates a positive attitude toward the teaching profession.
  • Promotes understanding of District programs and policies.
  • Remains current in education and the specific areas of instruction though literature workshops conferences professional organizations and college courses.
  • Adheres to the Texas Education Code of Ethics and supports the Districts philosophy.
  • Performs other appropriate duties as assigned by the building principal.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

The usual and customary methods of performing the jobs functions require the following physical demands: physical mobility standing prolonged sitting some lifting carrying pushing and/or pulling. This position will also require both traveling within the district and state wide. Mental demands: Ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of situations; ability to interpret a variety of data; ability to interpret TEC and policy; ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory ability to be effective in both oral and written communication; ability to maintain emotional control under stress.
