Procurement sits at the heart of this system directly determining production continuity cost efficiency and product quality across every line.
The procurement challenge
This role manages procurement across one of Nigerias most complex agro-industrial supply chains sourcing for 10 production lines with different raw materials seasonal cycles perishability profiles and quality standards. Inputs range from highly perishable cassava fruits and fresh fish to durable grains oilseeds and packaging materials sourced from across Nigeria and beyond. Getting procurement right here is not routine it is a strategic function that directly determines whether the factory runs.
Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced systems-driven Procurement Operations Manager to lead strategic sourcing supplier management and cost optimization across the Group. This role ensures uninterrupted supply of quality raw materials packaging and services to support our multi-line manufacturing operations in Uyo.
Tasks
STRATEGIC SOURCING & SUPPLIER DEVELOPMENT
- Develop and manage multi-commodity sourcing strategies across perishable semi-durable and durable agricultural inputs
- Build and maintain a diversified supplier base including smallholder cooperatives regional aggregators and commercial suppliers
- Lead negotiations on pricing quality specifications volume commitments and delivery schedules
- Develop contract farming and off-take arrangements to stabilize raw material supply and protect farmer income
- Manage long-distance sourcing for durable commodities (e.g. grains oilseeds from northern Nigeria) with appropriate risk controls
PROCUREMENT POLICY & INTERNAL CONTROLS
- Develop implement and continuously improve procurement policies procedures and approval frameworks
- Maintain transparent procurement documentation audit trails and compliance records
- Enforce governance standards aligned with the Groups quality and operational discipline
- Support internal and external audits with accurate audit-ready procurement records
SUPPLIER PERFORMANCE & CONTRACT MANAGEMENT
- Manage supplier performance against quality pricing delivery and compliance criteria
- Conduct regular supplier evaluations and corrective action processes where required
- Negotiate and administer contracts ensuring value for money and risk protection
- Build long-term supplier relationships that support production continuity and cost stability
RAW MATERIAL QUALITY & ACCEPTANCE
- Work closely with the Quality Assurance and Laboratory teams to enforce raw material acceptance standards
- Ensure all incoming materials meet moisture contamination grading and specification requirements
- Manage supplier quality issues including rejection segregation and corrective follow-up
- Coordinate pre-dispatch quality stabilization for long-distance commodity sourcing
INVENTORY LOGISTICS & PRODUCTION ALIGNMENT
- Maintain strategic buffer inventories for key raw materials particularly for seasonal and long-distance inputs
- Coordinate procurement schedules with seasonal production planning and the Manufacturing & Production Council
- Optimize logistics for bulk procurement ; route planning consolidation and cost-efficient haulage
- Align raw material deliveries with production schedules to prevent stockouts and overstocking
COST MANAGEMENT & VALUE OPTIMIZATION
- Drive cost reduction across the procurement function without compromising quality or supply continuity
- Conduct market price analysis and benchmarking across commodity categories
- Identify opportunities for bulk purchasing early procurement and supplier consolidation
- Report on procurement cost performance savings and risk exposure to senior leadership
CROSS-FUNCTIONAL COLLABORATION
- Work closely with Finance on payment terms budget management and cost forecasting
- Coordinate with Production and Supply Chain teams on raw material requirements and lead times
- Provide procurement intelligence to support seasonal production planning and financial planning
Requirements
- Bachelors degree in Procurement Supply Chain Management Business Administration or a related field
- Professional certification (CIPS CIPSM or equivalent) is an advantage
- Minimum 510 years experience in procurement operations preferably in manufacturing or FMCG
- Proven experience sourcing agricultural commodities or food-grade raw materials in the Nigerian market
- Demonstrated ability to manage diverse supplier bases including smallholder cooperatives and large commercial suppliers
- Strong understanding of procurement governance internal controls and audit requirements
Skills & competencies
- Strong negotiation and contract management skills across multiple commodity types
- Sound knowledge of agricultural commodity markets seasonal pricing and supply dynamics in Nigeria
- Analytical mindset with ability to manage cost data supplier scorecards and procurement KPIs
- High attention to detail and commitment to procurement compliance and documentation integrity
- Ability to work effectively across production finance logistics and quality functions
- Comfortable operating in a structured fast-paced agro-industrial environment
